i have to nominate final fantasy xiv as having easily one of the best soundtracks in a modern game. like, hello?! masayoshi soken is a real legend.
monster hunter games also generally have really good soundtracks. i like mizutsune’s theme a lot but there are tons of great songs through the entire series.
and finally as a bunch of other people have said, splatoon has a really fun soundtrack too. splattack is such a nice song.

Lots of really interesting picks in here! I think my favourite modern game soundtrack (barring mostly-licensed ones like Brutal Legend and Hi-Fi Rush) would be No Straight Roads's soundtrack. It's a platform-rhythm hybrid game where you play as a pair of loser punk-rockers who fight pop-star bosses and an evil record company. It's a great game (and what my profile pic on this forum is from, incidentally!) The music in the game all has two tracks that switch from rock to EDM mixes depending on how well you do. Here's a personal favourite: Edit: Oh, and I adore Splatoon's soundtrack. My favourite bands are for-sure Wet Floor, Ink Theory and the Bottom Feeders. I really dig all the Omega-3/Salmon Run stuff as well. It's like, squid Marc Bolan meets squid breakcore.

Ooh I love video game music! It's hard to narrow down but some of my favorite soundtracks (and a few selections from each) are: - Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye, Elegy for the Rings, and Timber Hearth.
- Night in the Woods: Title, Astral Coal Town, and Mallard's Tomb.
- Psychonauts: Title and End Credits, The Milkman Conspiracy, and Sasha's Lab.
- Ultrakill: Versus, Altars of Apostasy, and Glory.
- Hypnospace Outlaw: Millennium Anthem, Sleeptime Computing, and Ready to Shave.

The Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West OSTs are long and varied, and I love them a lot, especially Meridian Shining, City on the Mesa, The Good News, White Falls and Guardian of the Deep (I haven't yet listened to all of FW's OST, it's very very long). Stephen Barton is a recurring presence on my OST playlists. He did the soundtrack for Jedi Fallen Order, which I like, and Project Cars, which is unreasonably good. And! He did Titanfall 2! (Links to, in order, the JFO main menu theme, Eau Rouge (Instrumental), and BT-7274 (Redux)) I fall in love with a lot of soundtracks so to avoid listing just 'games I have played', I'll add just one more: Portal/Portal 2 (try Self Esteem Fund and An Accent Beyond). They have different sounds but both work for their game. I used to listen to the album to go to sleep! All good soundtracks and games which I would recommend, if a bit mainstream!
