We& did quite a bit yesterday. Mise en place for meals for that night and the day after, so we could cook with very little work upon getting home; we participated in our neighbourhood organisation’s monthly safety walk that evening after work, in freezing temperatures (0°F/-17.8°C), touring the neighbourhood with others for an hour to see if anything needed to be addressed. E.g. to see if there were any malfunctioning streetlights, excess ice on pedestrian paths (most of it was fine, but there were a couple businesses that have to be contacted), accessibility issues (e.g. for wheelchair users and blind neighbours). I got to learn quite a bit about this section of the neighbourhood that we toured (many art studios behind other buildings that I had not been aware of!). The other neighbours participating recognised me, too, including the Board member in charge of the two community gardens. It was lovely. <3

During our safety walk, the group dropped by a polling place to vote in a special election: the Senate representative for our district died recently of ovarian cancer, so there was a special election to nominate candidates. Everyone there was very nice, though it turns out that specific polling place was not where I was supposed to vote (technically I’m in Marshall Terrace instead of Sheridan, so my polling place is located further northeast). That marked the final leg of our neighbourhood’s Safety Walk, and after a few more blocks, we parted ways
(normally all of us convene at a local bar to drink but it was just too cold that night lmao). Afterwards, I went to our& actual polling place (more walking! More admiring of Christmas decorations!) and we& bumped into our two favourite neighbours there! They had earlier invited us& along to bike with them up to the station, but I don’t have studded tyres, and overall we are very wary of biking during winter conditions. Big group hug and then I made my way home, cooked the meals whose ingredients I had prepared earlier that day, ate, drank a little vermouth, bathed, went to bed. Oh, and another flip phone we ordered from Japan arrived that evening… Absolutely mint condition… My Dieter sure is fond of those things! Boys with their toys, I’d say. <3

I did an English assignment (reading two long poems---we didn't have to read them in full depth, just skim, but I was interested to read the first all the way and to read a good chunk of the second before skimming) and played some Minecraft---after days of searching and thousands of blocks of travelling, I finally found a desert and got some cactus blocks to make green dye for my dog's collar! I also found and looted some other structures. I also finally picked up my textbooks for this semester from my college's library and had lunch and dinner with some friends to catch up about how our breaKs were!

I finally looked at what "zines" are and decided I'd make one myself. At first I tried with a software but it doesn't fit what I want because it's A6 paper format and I want A5. And it turns out that my printer is forcing an invisible margin so text and pictures on top of the sheet is obliterated.

I also printed several sheets in order to see how it would work out but it was not what I wanted. For half a day I wanted to give up but when I looked in my bag for reading comics, I saw my pencils and thought that perhaps, maybe, it could be something done the old-fashioned way. In the afternoon I bought stickers and staples.

Now I have made the cover, first page and last page. I've also done a double page poem inspired by a nightmare I had on my 11th birthday. I'm trying to see what I could add inside to make it interesting. I'm planning to use original sheets and copy them to make copies for my trusted friends.

So yeah, crafting a zine is interesting and it feels fun to do everything by hand with pencils, pens and stickers.

Today, I put myself out there, and connected with an awesome writer. We had a blast this evening, plotting and brainstorming and even doing a bit of roleplay writing together- play by post style, and it’s so much fun writing one of my favourite ships with someone equally as enthused and happy to play what basically amounts to grownup barbies and dollhouses together. It’s been awhile since I last connected with a new writing partner, and I’ve been really enjoying the process so far. Really excited to see where this goes. My personal website came in handy for archiving some pertinent lore for our current plot premise, and I’ve had fun posting my half of replies onto my website. Maybe something to rework lightly into a collaborative fanfiction? We’ll see.  Either way- what a delight! :4u:

So far, I followed a children's workout video, stepped outside for some fresh air, and did all my ASL homework. Now I'm going to eat my half boiled eggs and seasoned rice and rest a while, so hopefully I'll have enough energy to attend my full ASL class this evening.

Also, although this wasn't today but earlier this week, I'm just really proud of myself for setting up a consultation with an immigration lawyer! It feels like such a *Big* and *Scary* adult thing, but he seems really chill so far, so fingers crossed! :wizard:

I turned a raspberry pi/display enclosure into a nightstand clock. It's admittedly really simply coded, it just works by starting an x server on boot and putting a bunch of terminal windows into the startup script, but it looks cool.

Today I tried to catch up on the dishes, took a bath, and stared into the abyss of game coding.
