i use MX Linux, styled similarly to KDE Plasma 4 and loosely similar to Windows Vista/7!

i've wanted to use Windows 7 again, as it was my childhood OS i've used for the whole of my childhood. though i'm just kinda worried about security vulnerabilities with older OSes lol
though i do really like how it looked, how lightweight it was (compared to Windows 10 and 11 anyways) and i liked how straightfoward it felt.

i moved to Linux as i couldn't handle Windows any longer, 10 was bad, but 11 just straight-up needed a NASA-Lite PC just to run at all? plus heaps of cheap computers that are clearly below the minimum spec requirements, running it anyway? etc.
plus i just can't keep up with Microsoft's crap. though on a lighter note, i am finding Linux really nice and well :D

i wanted XP so i could use VOCALOID Editor 2 and UTAU, though Windows Vista or 7 for VOCALOID Editor 3 and UTAU as well (tho i have a 64-bit CPU so UTAU is gonna be fun... /sarc) plus my laptop initially ran Windows 7 anyways, it still has the sticker on it heheh  :dive:

my desktop pc runs modified windows 10 currently, but i plan on building a new computer this year that will run windows 11. i also have a steam deck so i am getting more familiar with linux mint. i've also got some older machines that run windows 98 and windows vista.

one of my plans after the new computer build is to fix the battery on my old gaming laptop and run either mint or another distro on it. i grew up using laptops and while i love having a desktop, there are days where i just want to lay in bed and use a computer instead of a tablet.

After a long battle where I jumped between Windows and Ubuntu, I have finally made my choice and I am using Ubuntu now. The main thing that was keeping me from making the full transition was playing video games but now that I've stopped to take time for my other hobbies, I've switched to Linux completely. It's a bit intimidating but I'm making my marks and I do believe that I will be able to do what I need with the laptop I've setup.

Congratulations.

Depending on what types of games you play, most things are playable on Linux with either wine or proton. I've been an only Linux user for years now and haven't looked back too often. You get used to it and then one day you'll feel as weird about having to use Windows.

ive been trying out linuxmint xfce on an old thinkpad and it is amazing comparatively. almost all of my everyday stuff works on it and the only reason i havent kicked windows out of my main laptop for good is because of clip studio paint
