Are there any fans of collaborative fiction here? In my mind, this includes asynchronous roleplay like forums RP, text-based RPG, fictitious letters, play-by-email (PBEM), play-by-post (PBP), and also collaborative writing, collective storytelling, interactive fiction (IF).

I want to kick up a project related to text adventures and I'm thinking of starting with email adventures! I started cobbling together something here: https://dreamreach.net/ema

I'd love to connect with anyone here who has a passion for and/or knowledge of this stuff! Whether you're a game master, a seasoned player, a writer, a muse, or just someone bored and intrigued, I'd love to chat! Please feel free to reply here or email me directly!

I'd be interested in doing that! That sounds like such a cool idea, and even if you can't get a website set up, we can do it in this forum :)

Also, the website you linked isn't loading.

I, @dream .
I'm a long time P&P player, and I focus on player improvisation and collaborative storytelling in the sessions I hope myself.
One of my projects was a simple php engine that allows collaborative creation of interactive fiction, called Incoanhyto, a running instance can be seen here.
I sometimes review interactive fiction and text based games on my blog, the arcane cache.

How much ~time should one be willing to invest in your E-Mail adventures per week?

Edit: Loads 4 me, @candycanearter07

Strange. Can you maybe try again? The website loads for me.

Do you have any experience with this sort of thing? Certainly not required; just curious, as I do not, and I wish to learn quickly! Is your interest more as a player, a game master, both, something else?

The beauty of async! Entirely flexible. When I think of this project, I think of it in terms of what it could become, which is many players and many GMs. And in that world, I could see player/GM pairing based on frequency preference.

As for me personally, 'at least once a day' seems like a reasonable goal to start with. And certainly more frequent if both player and GM happen to have the time.

I think with the player queuing up intents (as the website example shows) and the GM writing thoughtful narration and evocative detail, even once a day might be a nice amount of content, especially if you consider the amount of consideration, planning, or re-reading the player/GM might do as they compose their thoughts.

Incoanhyto looks very cool! The 'arcane cache' link didn't work for me. Could you relink it?

Glad that you like Incoanhyto! Link to the cache is fixed.

Once daily is probably a bit much for me atm - currently, I'm on a sick cert (but hopefully not too long anymore), and within my daily routine it's usually quite often a struggle to get everything done at a day - so I probably couldn't do you justice as a player.

But I'm most open for every theoretical chit-chat about narrative game design :p.

I’ll email you! Theoretical chit-chat about narrative game design sounds great. And, to clarify, personally I have no frequency requirements. I only meant I could strive for daily. Any duration longer suits me just fine too. Looks like my post is too short, so I’ll add some verbosity here I suppose.

Weird, might've just been the wifi blocking it. It works fine now.

I've literally never done or heard of this before but it sounds awesome and I'd like to try being a player.
