I recently got a cd player for christmas, so i've been listening to more full albums, or re-listening to some i havent listened to in a while. I've also seen this asked elsewhere, so i'm asking it here too.

As for me, my favorite album is probably Life by the Cardigans, it has a US, UK, and Swedish release which are all slightly different from each other with song lineups, but all three are good. A close second for favorite album would probably have to be KoRn's self-titled album. Both albums are very different from each other which is what makes picking one over the other very challenging.

that being said though, what are y'alls favorite albums and/or album recommendations?

Listening to full albums is almost all I do!

My favorite full album I think is The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis. 1970's progressive rock concept album! Rather long but WELL worth the listen imo.

Another one in my rotation is easily Never Before Seen, Never Again Found by Arm's Length. Emopop album from 2022! The amount of days I've just laid in my bed with it on repeat... :loved:

Some others I'll mention quicker:
  • The Lonesome Crowded West by Modest Mouse (90's indie rock)
  • American Football (LP1) by American Football (Midwest Emo but like early Midwest Emo, very soft. If you look at memes a lot you've probably heard the first track "Never Meant" from this album lol)
  • Killed For Less by Sense Field (90's Post-Hardcore).

It's  really  hard  to  pick  one;  I  don't  think  I  have  a  singular  favorite  album.

That  being  said,  I  absolutely  adore  Portrait  in  Jazz.  I'm  just  in  love  with  Bill  Evans  in  general;  his  playing  is  heart-wrenching,  almost  painfully  so  at  times.  Love  it  so  much.  Waltz  for  Debby  and  Moonbeams  are  two  other  amazing  trio  albums  of  his.

Solace  by  Earl  Sweatshirt  is  also  really  really  good.  It's  It's  an  EP,  a  relatively  short  one,  and  it's  tracks  all  run  continuously  as  one  recording.  It's  also  a  really  bleak  listen  but  it's  also  really  beautiful  and  poignant  (I'm  also  an  Earl  fanboy  lol).

Not sure if you're into rock operas, but Pink Floyd's The Wall (both the album and the film) has been a major influence for me ever since I was a teen. PF in general is one of my special interests, but that album in particular means the world to me as a lonely, isolated person. I use it as a personal reminder to never let myself become a cold, closed off person devoid of empathy, even when it's tempting to.

My other favorites include OK Computer (Radiohead), Hospice (The Antlers), The Downward Spiral (NIN), Blackstar (David Bowie), Violator (Depeche Mode), and Disintegration (The Cure). There's also Soundtrack for the Blind by Swans, but your enjoyment of that will probably be heavily dependent on how much you like experimental music. Still, I urge you to try it, as it is an earthshattering work of art.

:ozwomp: I love In Rainbows by Radiohead! I enjoy how delicate each song feels, with many layers and pieces coming together to make each song not only distinct, but re-listenable.

Another album ive been listening to is songs by Adrianne Lenker. Very melancholic countryesque sounds paired with some of my favourite songwriting.

I love a lot of different albums!!! But I usually listen to a lot of pop music. My favorite album from the top of my head is probably Caroline Polachek's 'Desire, I Want to Turn Into You' - i love almost every song in it, honestly, though my favorites are definitely Welcome to My Island (which is kinda the title track with how the album name is in the chorus), Pretty in Possible, and Dang.

picking just one feels like asking me to pick a favorite child! i think my top five would be this:

-the weakerthans - left and leaving (been one of my favorites since high school, probably my soul album, think typical indie but with lyrics that'll rip your heart out through your mouth and make you grateful for it)
-coheed and cambria - afterman (ascension and descension) (prog rock concept album with a metal feel)
-los campesinos! - hold on now, youngster (twee pop that'll get mad at you for calling it twee pop)
-american football - american football (flawless midwest emo, no notes)
-saturdays at your place - always cloudy (also flawless midwest emo, i've seen these guys on almost every tour and they're just. so good.)

hon mentions to watching movies with the sound off by mac miller, SCARING THE HOES by danny brown and JPEGMAFIA, synth waltzes and accordion laments by yara asmar, we the vehicles by maritime, and little green house by anxious.

my tastes tend to shift around a lot, but the three that come to mind as consistently great albums that I will listen to forever and ever no matter my mood are as follows:

  • Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense: it's a live album which I don't generally gravitate to very much, and also the soundtrack to a movie but it's a concert film so it's a great area. but regardless it is just a wonderfully powerful collection of music, and the reworkings of some of the band's best songs are just incredible. I love the layers, I love the backup singers, I love the life and energy that is just eternally present through the entire album (including the tracks which were cut from the movie/original release of the album. this version of cities feels so dazed and melodic and plodding -- it's incredible!!). talking heads are my favorite band and have a huge presence in my life so this isn't an easy decision but this live album really sonically demonstrates all of their strengths better than I can articulate in text. my favorite track at the moment is probably this must be the place, both the original album version and this rendition of it make me feel so... connected to the world around me. it's beautiful.
  • Duran Duran - Rio: just absolutely magnificently performed and produced from start to finish. it carries this intense and fun energy, possibly best exemplified in the opening title track rio, though I do think I prefer some of the US single mixes funnily enough. the album version is still so intense though, and that intensity carries through the whole album. I love the closing track the chauffeur, it's haunting and has just the right amount of layer separation to feel strange and otherworldly. probably the strongest standout piece across their entire discography is john taylor on bass, and it's such a strong driving force on this album. it's also pretty sentimental, this was one of the first albums my mom bought for me specifically when I was a kid alongside cyndi lauper's she's so unusual.
  • Grace Jones - Slave to the Rhythm: this is another strange one by definitions of what constitutes an album, as it's comprised entirely of extremely different remixes and reworkings of a single track. the most recognizable version of it was released as a single with the same name as the album, but it appears on the album as ladies and gentlemen: miss grace jones. the entire album is so breathtaking and cohesive though. it's danceable, with lots of old-school funk elements mixed with plodding synthesizers as was fairly common of dance music of the period. jones' voice is just so adaptable and intense and incredible though, she repeats the same lyrics over the course of the album in a seemingly infinite number of different ways. it's cohesive, but avoids feeling repetitive magnificently. I particularly like the use of voiceover across the album and the incredible mastering, which are features I also greatly enjoy in albums like frankie goes to hollywood's welcome to the pleasuredome and janet jackson's rhythm nation 1814.

if my bias for vaguely avant-garde yet still mainstream 80s pop and dance music isn't incredibly obvious, some other albums I've really been enjoying in the past couple weeks are depeche mode's some great reward, prince's around the world in a day and controversy, wham!'s make it big, and blondie's parallel lines.

WINO Everlast
This band always stuck with me since I first heard one of their songs being used as an intro song for the 1999 version of Hunter x Hunter. I occasionally looked for the music online to hear more but never found any over the years. Until I got a job on my own and could afford buying the cds myself
In my opinion Everlast is their best album, it’s the one that feels most ”complete” so to say. The earlier albums ”Useless music” ”WINO” and ”Dirge No.9” feels more like they’re still finding their sound. And their last album ”Lion” felt rushed to me. I really like their sound on that album just the right combination of Oasis influence.

First i want to say I feel the same about this album  i love it very much and i recently saw the remastered movie in a cinema and it was amazing.

Songs: Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co., Smog-Knock Knock, Tori Amos- From the Choir Girl Hotel, Blood Orange- Cupid Deluxe, Tell All Your Friends - Taking Back Sunday , Cocteau Twins - Victorialand
and Stop Making Sense live

Yesss! Came here to mention Desire, I Want to Turn Into You!
Crude Drawing of an Angel has to be one of my favorites, along with Blood and Butter. The whole album is amazing imo and can be easily listened front to back.

Don't forget the Everasking Edition  :mark:

Cocteau Twins - Victorialand
I'm happy to see Cocteau Twins here! I haven't listened to Victorialand yet, but Heaven or Las Vegas is definitely one of my favourite albums. I listened to it on those slow summer afternoons where there isn't much to do, I had just found out about TempleOS and put up a virtual machine to try it out xD

Other albums I really like are Twin Fantasy by Car Seat Headrest (also like How to Leave Town a lot), Because I'm Young Arrogant and Hate Everything You Stand For and also U-Void Synthesizer, both by Machine Girl, and Deathconsciousness by Have a Nice Life. I don't know, these albums are pretty rooted in my brain, they're like the old reliable ones that have established their place in my head and heart.
