Aguirre, Wrath of God,
I watched this a long time ago but I should rewatch it again! There's actually a whole thread for Werner Herzog :omg: https://forum.melonland.net/index.php?topic=1014.msg7595#msg7595

This movie is criminally underrated.

i would really have to disagree? what makes you say that?

I just wanted to add my two cents, I frickin' LOVED EEAAO and I've seen it four times now, but I would not say it was underrated; it saw its fair share of glory, I think it won some awards too didn't it?

Last movie I watched was Paranormal Activity (2007) and I wasn't a huge fan. I liked it slightly more than the Blair Witch Project but not by that much. Turns out I just generally don't like found footage films.

yes! eeaao won 7 Academy Awards, a BAFTA, 5 Critic's Choice awards, 2 Golden Globes, and a few others. Ke Huy Quan's speech for winning Best Supporting Actor was especially popular as it was his return to film and his speech was very moving about not giving up on your dreams. there's a whole wikipedia page for the accolades of eeaao! it says it's "currently estimated to be the most awarded film of all time", which is why i was so surprised to see it called underrated, but i totally get it since misanthropic monster seems to have completely missed the hype train haha  :4u:

Last movie that I watched was "I Care a Lot" (2020). It's one of those movies where everyone is terrible and you don't really want to root for anyone-- unless you're me, I rooted for the "mean" lesbian. I like that the main character was sapphic without it being a main point in the movie. Overall, I really liked the movie's pretense: A corrupt legal guardian chooses the wrong victim to try to scam, but it's execution left a lot to be desired for me. I liked that it touched on topics of elder abuse and healthcare corruption though.

I just watched Baby Driver (2017), and I thought it was AMAZING. I heard a lot of praise about it from some friends of mine, so when I booted up Netflix, I clicked and watched it through. It had me on the edge of my seat throughout the latter half of the movie. Great soundtrack as well, Edgar Wright always picks great music for his movies.

Spoilers for Drive (2011) and Baby Driver (2017)
Spoiler
About a year or two ago I watched Drive (2011) and really loved it. Ryan Gosling plays quiet stoic characters perfectly, I also loved him in Bladerunner 2049. I bring this up because I noticed a lot of parallels between the two movies,
  • Quiet Protagonist
  • Love Interest causes more harm than good
  • Getaway driving
  • Protagonist lives a double life
  • Spectacular soundtrack
  • Protagonist loses control of life as events unfold
So, I jokingly said the movie was a "Drive type" movie. Anyone else think similarly?

I recommend Baby Driver wholeheartedly to anyone interested in heist movies. It was a fun ride throughout.

I wanted a laugh, so I watched Showtime (2002) with Robert DeNiro and Eddie Murphy.  :chef: such a silly movie, but it makes me giggle.

My girlfriend and I watched Bullet Train (2022) the other day, it was incredible! I'm not usually one for action movies, but I never got bored once the entire film! The sense of humour was layered and snappy, and there was a real sense of momentum (no pun intended) for the entire film. All the characters are super fun with a variety of personalities on the screen at any moment, which contrast wonderfully. Highly recommend! :chef:

I finally got around to watching Willy's Wonderland earlier on Shudder... it had been on my to-watch-list for a long while as it ticked a lot of boxes for me; Nicolas Cage, animatronics, Chuk-E-Cheese horror tropes, etc.

I think it was a near-perfect movie, 9/10 - the reason I can't give it 10 is because despite how great it was, despite how amazing the cinematography, effects, acting, writing, gore etc was... the actual animatronics design felt a little uninspired. It really let the movie down a lot for me, especially since there was SO much attention to detail for everything else (there was a scene where an animatronic looks up into the sun and their pupil dilates for instance, something so small made such a huge impact) but sadly the creature design just fell short for me... everything else though *chefs kiss*

As always Nic Cage carried the entire movie on his back - the silent protag trope always does it for me - he is so badass in this flick it's unreal! There's a slight bit of goofiness that I love, but he's badass through and through.

I definitely recommend this movie if you like franchises like FNAF, or liked that Banana Splits movie.

oh my GOD i've just finished my second watch of I Saw The TV Glow and it is truly an incredible movie, really captures the trans experience in a fashion i've never seen done before while being visually stunning. the writing is a bit. wonky and the shots are pretty basic but i really really really loved this movie (:
