Winamp! WACUP (Winamp Community Update Project)! Windows Media Player!

I love media players, winamp/wacup especially.

What media players do yall use? Which ones did you use growing up?

Right now I'm using the 32-bit version of WACUP, with the "Winamp Modern" skin sporting the "Refugee Nika Pink" color theme!

Went from Winamp to Foobar2000 back in the days. Might be due to nostalgia, but there was never another player like it :p.
Going over to Linux, Foobar was, however, not available. I tried many things - the players that I used over some period of time were Rythmbox, Clementine, a rather obscure one named Guayadeque (that was great, but eventually wasn't working after some update), and recently Strawberry, which is a fork of Clementine. Additionally, I have a mpd server running that I control with Cantata when running Pen&Paper sessions in my room.

For some time, I had also a additional player named qmmp active. Its very inspired by WinAmp.

For video, I always used VLC - a few years back, it got mostly replaced by SMPlayer, but is still installed on every system I use.

Oh wow I didn't know there was a version of Winamp that's being updated! I'm definitely gonna look into it!

I remember using Windows Media Player a LOT for listening to music and playing DVDs, however its functionality was limited and there were some files it wouldn't play, so I had migrated to Winamp for music instead.

I don't... remember what I used once I had finally gotten my own PC, I THINK I had used the default player for a bit until I was told about VLC. Recently I just redownloaded Winamp and grabbed a few skins.

I used to use Audacious and it supports Winamp skins which is nice (and its open source too). These days I just use VLC to listen to my offline music hoard (which is pretty disorganized  :p )

I also tried out this remake of Spotiamp which is a Spotify client that supports Winamp Skins, though it only works you have a premium subscription.

also use foobar - so customizable. i have this minimalist setup with no visible controls (i just use global hotkeys (the winamp ctrl-direction hotkeys, since i have old-man-brain))

https://files.catbox.moe/d1t3eu.png

the two numbered columns are playcount and rating (1-5), so i can do a sort of manual scrobbling of playcounts like last.fm and determine what my objectively favorite songs are.

I main winamp right now. It's basically perfect, and I love collecting skins for it. Finding more skins to add to my collection is almost as fun as the actual listening to music part, haha.

I'm also making my own skin, but I keep taking long breaks from it because it can be kind of... tedious  :drat: I should really commit to finishing it though hahaha

I'm actually listening to music in winamp as I make this post :dive:

I primarily use aimp. Mostly because of how much skins it has and how lightweight the entire thing is. It also doesn't

crash every five minutes on my PC like WACUP did, mostly cause of some tampering that should never have taken place.

I also use an older version of itunes that i skinned for Fun.

I use Quod Libet! It's a simple & customizable GTK+ application with a pretty slick tag editing system. It's got some handy extensions, including a scrobbler for Last.fm and tools for exporting playlists to m3u and other formats. I also like that it's been packaged for Debian!  :dog:

Before that, I used the command line-based mocp for a little bit, which is probably almost as simple as a music player can get. And then before that, while I was still running Windows, I used MusicBee.

As a kid, I think I mostly just used iTunes...  :ohdear:

Changed fully to mpd since Strawberry couldn't handle my music lib anymore. It works like a charm, and I've a cool little terminal program - called ncmpcpp - to control it.

When I still used Windows 10, I tried Wacup, Clementine, Exaile, and finally AIMP. Then after switching to Linux, I stopped using AIMP for a while & switched to Audacious because the audio in AIMP came out glitchy. Now I'm beta-testing AIMP after they said AIMP 6 is getting proper support for Linux finally. Before then, the deb installer just installed the Windows program but with Wine (a program that lets you run Windows-only apps and games).
As you can imagine, since AIMP 6 is still in beta testing, there's some issues, primarily when I use it while other programs are running. So I mostly use it for albums and audiobooks I want to really pay attention to. I have Strawberry for music I have on in the background. I tried installing Clementine on Linux Mint for the Icecast directory, but apparently, it has some outdated dependencies that won't install. So I settled on Strawberry for internet radio as background music, especially since it has a SomaFM directory & Icecast stations can still be added. I know AIMP has a plugin for an Icecast directory. But the plugins as of now can only be used on the Windows app. Yes, even with the beta tested version.
For video players, I just switch between SMPlayer and VLC but mostly SMPlayer. When I was on Windows, MPC-BE was my primary player.

I'm a Foobar user but for the longest time I used Windows Media Player... mostly for the skins! There were so many and all pretty impressive. I miss when programs had interfaces that looked like alien constructions xD

Alternatively I use Modplug Player for all kinds of module music!

Chiming in as another AIMP user, love the built-in tagging tools, audio converters, and the customization it has. Also, the Android app is pretty customizable and has many skins to choose from (although the majority of Android skins are flat design).
