Bots in comment widget?!

Hey guys, so today I received two comments in the blog about food, and those two are definitely bots considering how unnatural the messages are and both of the websites they left are fake restaurant menu sites, Mary left a Chick-Fil-A menu website, Sam left a Tim Hortons menu website, neither of these stores are in where I live, so I can't even order them lol.

I never thought it would be a thing that bots can comment on random Neocities websites as well, I only heard of trolls commenting on guestbooks. The bots might have found my blogs with the keywords relating to food, and I'm not sure what other keywords the bots might be after...

I don't know what the purpose of bots advertising these websites is, but it does feel a little disheartening learning it isn't real people interacting with me, I thought I can escape that when I'm not on Twitter >:|

Ugh, how annoying. I get these sorts of comments too, always just the blandest, most boring pre-written crap. It's difficult to imagine how they're even supposed to bring in any profit, though I suppose they're looking for backlinks somehow.

As for being disheartening, hang in there! Real interaction does seem to be slower and harder to get than on busy places like Twitter & etc., but it'll come around eventually. The few comments I get on my blog are always so sweet, and I treasure them.

When the forum was new bots spammed here quite regularly! These days its essentially impossible for them to join because of manual account approvals; however before that they were almost totally stopped by the "what animal is in the register button" question when you make an account. Bots are pretty good at working around captchas, and those "whats 5+5" questions, however an unexpected question like describing a UI element floors them; you might be able to add one into your comments section!

Bots are everywhere on the web; people code bots that just look for HTML forms and spam data into them. I guess some of the newer ones are a bit smarter like these guys

haha i remember the "what animal" question floored me because i had changed the site to the dreamy theme and i couldn't find the dolphin lmfao i was so confused

same but it was because i was on my phone not only does the dolphin not exist in the mobile ui, two of the questions also just flat out don't appear on mobile making it impossible to fill out the form bahahahaha
