I found this new browser recently called Zen and it's based on Firefox, the UI is interesting to say the least and very different from any other browser I've seen, it still have a long way to go but I like it so far!

I remember commenting on the first reddit post the creator made when they decided they wanted to create the Zen Browser, they didnt even know what they'd call it yet.

I think its a very cool project, however I unfortunately cant bring myself to like the vertical tabs :(

i think the Zen store idea is really cool too, it kinda reminds me of the opera gx store, which is one of the only things i miss from that crappy browser. :drat:

so instead im using Floorp at the moment, and it's serving me pretty well as a firefox fork

I'm using the Zen Browser, and I'm a huge fan! The vertical tabs were the original selling point to me -- I'm very precious about my screen space, which also makes Compact Mode great for me. Before switching, I was using vanilla Firefox with a bunch of extensions to get vertical tabs -- with Zen, it's built right in! I love that it's being actively updated, too, and the Zen Mods store as well. I consider it better than vanilla Firefox, and it's still in beta.

I use zen! vertical tabs are really well suited to having pinned tabs, which fits my workflows really well. i have custom hotkeys tied to alt button and a custom context menu that work together to avoid switching between keyboard and mouse so much. the zen mod store is great, turns out a lot of people want a lot of the same tweaks that i do. one day i'll add some mods too  :ok:

This thread reminded me that I've been meaning to download and try out Zen actually! It was super easy to set up thanks to it being FF based, so all my stuff carried over upon logging in, which is always such a nice plus.

The look of Zen is super nice, and I love the built-in color picker. It's definitely a more "modern" looking browser, so I can't imagine it would look particularly at home in a more retro-themed setup, but it fits really well on my current setup! It also inspired me to find some new wallpapers lolz.

I'm a huge fan of the compact mode - it's perfect for reading manga and browsing smaller sites for a bit. I'm also a big fan of how new tabs are opened, even if it's a bit unintuitive for people who aren't expecting it - my girlfriend tried to open netflix and was initially puzzled as to whether or not she was opening a tab at all.

One major drawback, though, is that all of the streaming services I've tested have been broken on Zen. I'm not sure if it's just bc of an extension I'm using or something, but Netflix AND Hulu simply refused to load any video at all. Has anyone else seen this?

Well I just recently got Zen and outside of finding some discomfort in the side tabs, I've begun getting used to it and it's honestly pretty cool. I have a wide monitor (well, not super wide but wider than what I had before) so that probably really helps me in getting used to the different layout. Still trying to get used to how bookmarks appear on the top. Outside of that it works well, better than google chrome! (Especially now that google is attacking adblockers so much lol, seems like what I have for adblocking works on Zen)

Found out about this browser through this thread when I was looking for a new internet browser. Been using it for about a week right now, and honestly I love this browser! At first I didn't think that the vertical tab would matter all that much, and it would be hard to transfer over, but right now it's been incredibly helpful, and way easier to move my eyes to the side of the screen instead of snapping it to the top, and the fact it can be hidden is great.

Surprisingly it wasn't all too difficult to get used to I got used to it by the 2nd day. Almost everything is a big improvement over my last browser which was firefox, and since Zen uses the same stuff that firefox uses it was easy to import all my bookmarks, and passwords.

The only problem I really have with this browser is that from what I see there's is no way to have a screen be 1920 * 1080 which was how my site was made, and is usually how sites are built with in the indie web space, but from what I seen so far it doesn't break a website too badly, even mines as the only thing that changed is the update log moving slightly to the right which is nothing.

Overall I'm liking this browser, and look forward to the future of this browser :ozwomp:

Discovered this browser through this thread and this is pretty cool!! I'm also on my second day of tinkering around with it and I love the layout of the vertical tabs on the side. I also have my bookmarks in a column on the right side which makes them stand out and have them all more available than having a few up top and the rest hiding in a menu.

Also love how easy it was to transfer literally everything over from firefox. I had a firefox account which you just sign in on Zen and all your passwords and stuff are there. So easy!!

Gonna go dig around the mods now.  :skull:

I started using Zen Browser this month, and so far I like it. Its appearance reminds me of that one time I customized Firefox using someone's userChrome.css and a vertical tab extension. I also really like split tabs, since it lets me multi-task by running a web game in one screen and YouTube in the other.

One major drawback, though, is that all of the streaming services I've tested have been broken on Zen. I'm not sure if it's just bc of an extension I'm using or something, but Netflix AND Hulu simply refused to load any video at all. Has anyone else seen this?

Zen Browser's FAQ has an explanation for this.
