I have 2 GBAs! I got the blue one from a secondhand game store in like 2008, not actually sure where the red one came from.

Also a few of the games I have for it.

I think it would be a bit easier to mod a Gamecube compatible Wii, but if you want to mod a classic Gamecube, have you heard of the FlippyDrive? It's a solderless drive emulator that lets you load iso files natively onto the Gamecube.

I've been interested in using it to mod my Gamecube for a while now, because my Gamecube's disc drive is failing  :trash:

I mean I probably could also mod my Wii, I just like the excuse to mess with my gamecube too lol. I need to get replacement sticks either way because the rubber on mine is degrading and sticky

Either way, it's certainly a project for later lol but thanks for the recommendation!

How it goes is that we make a blog page where we roleplay as BFB contestants playing GBA games for a review. There are 14 contestants you can pick from: Firey, Leafy, Bubble, Flower, Spongy, Teardrop, Woody, Gelatin, Ruby, Balloony, Taco, Lollipop, Loser, and Profily. And you get to pick the GBA game you want to review.

That actually sounds really fun. Its like AVGN but with household objects. I wanna participate

I meant to post about this earlier in the week but it was Monday and then I just forgor.  :drat:

But uh Fire Red came in a week early! So I've been double hunting with that, no luck yet though. Now if only the shell for my silver GBA would come in finally! They printed out the shipping label for it almost a week ago now but haven't brought it to the post office. Teasing me..... I'm sure it's still just being worked on though.

Sadly the game was in the very beginning, someone must have restarted it and erased all their pokemon before selling it so no fun gems for me.... Except the rival who was named Shit for some reason.

GBA posting! This thread was the excellent excuse to finally make a family portrait of my GBA collection.

I currently have two GBAs: My original metallic blue one and one I had custom built in 2023 (the colour theme was Legends Arceus). Not to throw shade but I'm not entirely satisfied with the work. For instance, the A button is not as squishy as the other buttons, and it can be quite annoying during play. And I had asked the seller beforehand if he could build it with USB-C. He said it wasn't so I got this one with the original SP charging port. One month later and the guy is selling SPs with USB-C built in. You couldn't tell me to wait one month? I'm getting my mileage out of the €200 spent (the IPS screen and new battery are good) but I'm not shopping there again.

Rant over. Now to the games. LeafGreen and Emerald were from my childhood, the rest I bought over time before the resale market for these exploded. I got FireRed at €15 - insane! By the time the market did explode, I bought Ruby for €10 while in Tokyo just to complete the collection. I've played other GBA games over time, but those games were either borrowed or emulated. Nowadays I put all the GBA games I want on my 3DS. Physically collecting games only matters to me when it's Pokémon (can you tell my one personality trait?).

Not displayed here because it was inserted in my SP is an EZFlash Omega cartridge. I purchased this just so I could load events onto my games. This was the final step to make my childhood dreams come true. I love how there's still so much development for GBA Pokémon right now; the games feel very alive 20 years later.

Speaking of development for GBA Pokemon games, I stumbled upon this video the other day and it blew me away! I love how the community hasn't abandoned the old games and is able to find new ways to enjoy them!

"A custom e-Reader card for Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire [that] adds a new Mass Outbreak event inspired by Pokemon GO's Community day."

TL;DR it's an e-Reader card that you can scan and an NPC tells you what Pokemon species is having a "mass outbreak" that day. Certain days have certain Pokemon. That Pokemon will also have increased shiny odds of 1/64.

Oh man that's totally making me want an e-reader even more than imablissy's videos already did tbh. Between adding in game events akin to how gen 4 handles them and more recently fixing pokemon emerald's broken RNG, its wild to see what people have done recently.

I think for now I'm going to focus on a flashcart as much as I'd love using an e-reader, I'm not 100% sure I can print the way I need to with it even though it is a laser printer. I should be able to just inject the raw code on computer and put the saves back in.

Yooo that is sick!!! I have watched all of Blisy's eReader development and it's so cool to see this become mainstream. Admittedly, I haven't been able to make the cards work through the flashcart (which should be possible), so I haven't enjoyed the fruits of everyone's labour yet. :melon:

What I have installed on my flashcart rn are the following things: Gen 3 to Gen X (a general tool to fix some things in Gen 3 and do some trade evolutions without any hacking/genning) and GB Transporter (an ACTUAL method to transfer Pokémon from GBC to GBA games). I think all these fan developments are telling for the impact Gen 3 had on players.

OKAY so it's been a bit but everything FINALLY came in! Trying to fix some old damage to my screen I completely bungled the thing and needed to order a new one so I caved and got a modern one, plus the boxy pixel shells apparently for some reason don't come with the LED diffuser and the stock part doesn't fit so I had to order one of those while I was at it. But!!! it's all done and it looks great!

I think the reason I like the old screens so much is because they have this... framing? around the pixels? But I guess I'll live without it. This also isn't a really good comparison because the blue GBA's screen is unfortunately dim and I wish I hadn't messed up the better of the two screens but oh well.
