Glad to see a fellow Artix user! I've started using it recently and I feel like it's my favourite distro at this point. Installed a version with preconfigured XCFE desktop and it's like a golden mean for me as I didn't had to set up most of the boring and problematic things but it's still kept simple and clean, doesn't have all the bloat from "user friendly" distros like Mint or Manjaro. What are your feelings about that?

I am fine with that! I personally use it like any other Arch, setting it up from scratch, but at this point it's routine for me. Setting up a desktop environment is really, really easy actually; as easy as 'pacman -S lxqt', so I don't know why people always want preconfigured stuff - but I get wanting to have the peace of mind to get a working system right out of the box.

When it comes to the Arch derivates; one of my girlfriends actually was one of the founding members of Manjaro and now actually warns against the project for its many technical and security flaws, like those you can see here:
https://manjarno.snorlax.sh/

I like Mint personally though, it's a great entry point to GNU/Linux as a whole for people who just want to start out. It is what Ubuntu used to be before that went downhill.

I tried Manjaro in the past but it felt more complicated than what I wanted. Now I have Mint on my laptop. And yes I didn't want Ubuntu because I'd already tried that too and I just wasn't vibing with it.

anyone else here use MX?
i've been using MX Linux for a month or so now, with the XFCE DE. it's really nice especially with my laptop being not brand new but not ancient either, modern applications chug on it though (like Discord and Steam) but the FOSS alternatives run like it's brand new.

Audacious, VLC, Psi, Thunar, Pale Moon, etc are some of my favourite applications for some reason. they're light, but not unstable and they don't break too easily either.

historically i've tried Ubuntu, Mint, Artix, Manjaro, Endeavour, and even attempted installing Void, Debian, and Arch once; i never ended up installing them, but i just didn't really vibe with the others i've tried.
part of me likes the way MX can look at times, it looks old but not like, Windows 95 grey and blocky? it's not aero or anything either, but i dunno. i kinda like the way it looks, lol

i've been looking at Artix again and even Alpine if i ever do get an even older computer, especially as i'm going to Japan in a few months (being in Tokyo for a few days before a cruise with my mum), so i was looking at getting a Sony VAIO or a polycarbonate unibody MacBook of some sort, just so i can muck around with it, i guess.

This is my "to-install"-list when setting up a new system. It reflects what I do with my computer, but other people might still find it helpful. I removed the stuff that is only needed for coding.

Geany: Best Code and Text Editor around
Meld: Compare two txt files, and transfer changes as needed. Super useful.
SimpleScreenRecorder: For Screen Recording. Does the job alright!
Shotcut: For video cutting. Works like a charm.
LMMS: Simple, yet mighty multi-synthesizer. Everybody ought to get one.
SMPlayer & VLCPlayer: SMPlayer for daily use, VLC as secondary player.
Strawberry: Great music player. But the current version doesn't worked well for me anymore - I went over to mpd and ncmpcpp
Audacity: For quick audio recording
Ardour: For more advanced audio recording
Thunderbird: Haven't found a better Mailmanager yet.
GParted: Best GUI-partitioner I know of.
Nicotine: For sharing music online ;)
Filezilla: The definite FTP-Tool.

These games & Emulators:
Atomic Tanks
Super Tux Kart
Hedgewars
Mumble + Server
Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart
Mame
SnesEmu
OpenRA

Nice thread!
Os of choice is Devuan (Debian fork without systemd) with mate, icewm and ctwm desktops , generally also lxdm rather than lightdm as lxdm is fast and has an exploitable flaw which helps when making glitch art ( see the suda project https://wiki.formatc.hr/shelves/suda) -  softwares of choice are a lot of terminal based stuff like scrot, chafa, ffmpeg, imagemagick gmic lynx. Hardware of choice for laptops - thinkpads pre t480 ( librebooted t430 and x200) or fujitsu lifebooks for best linux compatibility (unglamorous corporate laptops  I know, fujitsu lifebooks have no white list for the wireless card so if u want to run full fsf compliant distro with only free software a good option ) - Fully free distro of choice is Trisquel or for fun Guix . Also run Linuxmint 2.1, ubuntu 6.06 / 10.04 and my own remixes of Devuan, built using refractasnapshot run live from usb or installed via refractainstaller (handy when you have older webcams or capture cards that will only run with older kernels).

This was the exact same fate as my first Ubuntu laptop. I loved that Toshiba Satellite like a brother.

I bought the original Microsoft Surface afterwards and tried installing Ubuntu on it because I thought the Unity desktop would be perfect on a tablet, but I could never get the wifi drivers to work. So that's when I went back to Windows, but I've been a Surface fan ever since.

Lol right now I have a Toshiba Satellite running Mint Xia. Using it to run an Apache server on my local internet for fun. It’s a decent little computer, had it for probably over 10 years.

My main laptop is running Mint Cinnamon. So far I’ve been really liking Linux. Though my main desktop will have to remain windows since a lot of the VST’s I use for music on that computer production, particularly orchestral music production, are Windows or Mac only.

Blender has been a stable open source program for me over the last 15 years or so. Inkscape and GIMP have also been in my arsenal at times.
