Runescape enjoyers, please help!

Hello all!! My partner has recently been reliving their childhood with playing the new Runescape game and I was super interested to try it myself as I love "number go up" in video games, but my PC is unable to run it :(( I've been looking for alternatives and would love to hear your recommendations for a similar experience!

Some notes:

• I know OSRS is my best bet, but I cannot afford a monthly subscription right now so I don't even want to try it for that reason haha
• I've recently returned to Melvor Idle and have that running in the background most of the time, but would like something more 'active'
• I'm not huge on the stress of survival and building, so games like Valheim aren't massively what I'm looking for, but I won't write them off
• The first Path of Exile is installing to try that, but I'm nervy about the amount of combat

I didn't think old school runescape required a subscription?  I'm sure it does for some things, but I thought it was free to play?

What exactly do you mean your computer cant run it? You can prob run OCRS on a bag of potatoes if you asked it nicely  My suggestion would be to play it using RuneLite which is a reliable client (Ive found it works well on modern macs, but should be fine on anything) - failing that you can play OCRS on a phone or a tablet, there are apps for it too 

You definitely do not need a subscription to play, there is a paid membership plan that gives you some extra features, but it's mostly things like the ability to change your username and get some visual decorations. (Some worlds are paid-only though, if your partner is playing on one of these, just get them to switch to a free world at the login screen, I think they should still have all their stuff!)

I would suggest you give RS another go ~ there are definitely alternative MMOs but if you are wanting to play with your partner and they are already on RS, then it seems like the best plan!

What exactly do you mean your computer cant run it?

I'm talking about Dragonwilds that just came out! I do not have the specs for it unfortunately.

And regarding the paid aspect that you and @GideonWilhelm both responded to, I was basing it on things I had seen elsewhere on line implying that I'm only going to get a fraction of the fun from the free to play experience and that it was seemingly useless for me to even try if I could subscribe.. but I tried it (OSRC) and well.. That's Reddit for you, because I was definitely enjoying myself haha. It's taking some adjusting to not get frustrated at the inventory full run to the bank gig I'm having to do every two minutes, but that's literally the only thing holding me back right now  Thank you for the replies, I'm glad I've tried it out!!
