Rave culture and the web

I'm curious about how many people here are interested in rave culture; both irl and digital rave culture! Have you/Do you go to raves? I've never been to one, but I've been told that they have a strong emphasis on the idea of giving and broken down boundaries (people often give strangers gifts like necklaces, trinkets, seashells etc at raves and its part of the experience).

In a way the idea of gliding in and out of peoples zones as you all share a semi-connected experience while giving gifts in a maximalist dream world feels a lot like how I look at the web, and I wonder how much rave culture influenced early web culture (they were both big in the 90s after all).

What are your experiences with rave culture, rave music, etc! And how does it connect into the web for you

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to attend a rave... YET!!!! I look forward to the very special moment in my life which will be my first rave. I've been making kandi bracelets for several years now, and although I am NO expert, they're fun!

I'm happy to say that I'm not the only one. My moirail also learned from me, and now we make them together from time to time!
I feel like eventually, we will have enough kandis to be able to trade to others. Most are ones I make to reflect, or remember the self. Though, we've both started to make more and more to trade to random strangers we come across! x2 kandis successfully traded/gifted. Sometimes it's cooler to give a gift to someone unsuspecting!
Surprising people with love, I feel, is what a rave is all about. I'm glad that we're able to find ways around not being able to attend one yet. I'd say we're spreading love and care from where we stand currently! And I am so happy and proud of that

It’s all about the people. You meet people and share in an experience which bonds you in some weird way, just like any sort of festival really.

I just need to update it, but ive been running out of ideas.. maybe some outfit inspo and such? Im not sure though, anyone got any ideas theyd like to reccomend to me please? Would be much appreciated!

Hi! I'm so excited that someone asked about this! i don't get to rave very often as events are kinda expensive and I have only a small amount of irl friends who are interested in the same events as me.
I do take a serious interest in UK rave culture though, as ongoing research and to inspire my art! I love the DIY nature of ravers and other subcultures if that makes sense, that community and innovation.

I enjoy the music, but I doubt I would enjoy an actual rave! Nothing wrong against them, it's just I'm the kind to not enjoy loud, crowded places! I'd rather put on my headphones and imagine the rave at home... I want to learn more about them, and what makes them different from regular clubgoing and other concert-like events

I'd love to attend a rave someday - seeing as I live "near" NYC which is a definite prime place for them. The thing is, I live too far from the city in general so going takes about two hours+ to and from, and the logistics are daunting since the commuter trains do stop running late nights. I don't really have any friends that are interested in these genres either outside of vocaloid-related stuff either. Raves are famously known for lasting until sunrise, so maybe working with that? But I'd rather go with someone than doing it solo.

That being said, I'm not exactly versed in the general music culture and the culture behind a rave itself. I've gone to a handful of metal concerts and even one metal festival (unfortunately I got psychosis during it and created a lot of embarrassing moments from that and awful first impressions to many people), but it seems like a different world. Like, I notice that electronic music releases tend to be in singles or EPs rather than albums, and there's the DJs and mixes. Also, the genres I mainly like are hardstyle and drum & bass, which are harder to find in the US.
