Hi! For a little while now, I've been toying with the idea of creating a webring and/or fanlisting. However, I have no idea where to start! On the fanlisting side of things, all of the tutorials are a bit old, so they no longer do much to help. For webrings, I've found... next to nothing.
With that being said, I also worry that no one will be interested in any of it. Thoughts?

you can use this site here for making a webring it works pretty well on my site but I don't know a whole lot about it

as for fanlisting, you can just ask here or send emails to people you know asking if they would like to join That way you have a couple of members by the time you're ready to start your webring

mabey this is a stretch but do you know any irl people that you might want on your webring? neocites is free and you could always send some resources their way if they needed help if it wasn't for the html cheat sheet then I would have never stuck with programming it really helped me a lot and there are lots of resources like this on the web

could you explain what you mean by finding nothing? admittedly, I don’t know much, if anything, about how fanlistings work, but Ive found plenty of things to help with webrings.

are you looking for code? members? what’s your ring about? Im sure there’ll be someone interested, if you figure out where to look.

You have a few things to think about before you do anything. Take a look at other webrings to see what they have done. What their widget looks like, the rules they have about what sites they accept, and how they want you to contact them. All of this is very flexible and for you to decide when you create your own.

There are lots of different webring scripts with the most popular being Onionring by Garlic Garden. If you decide to use them, take a look at the 4 files they give you to use, they are fairly well commented with what you have to edit.

Fanlistings are easier. They can be just a list of sites you find interesting. You do not need to contact the site owners to use their URLs. There are some such as XXIIVV where you need to get a link from them to add to your site and they'll add your site to their list.

It all looks complicated, especially the webring stuff, but it really isn't. It's all just creating lists of links.
