also quick question: would you recommend VX Ace over MV?
My response below is rooted in personal experience. Please keep this in mind, I don't know everything, m'kay? Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this!!!
This is a simple question with a deceptively not-simple response. For me personally, I use MZ lol. I recently purchased it, literally just feels like a more advanced version of MV. My current project,
Evren's Opus, will be made in this engine, maybe. But, between VX Ace and MV, I'd say it really depends on your needs for your project. Here's some things of note about each, I think:
VX:
- Older. (2012)
- Uses Ruby for its scripts.
- Games are less laggy, somehow.
- Feels just a bit simpler to use.
- Graphics are set at 32x32 resolution.
- Less modern day community support due to age, but there are nifty resources archived elsewhere.
- The RTP (default assets) are significantly better.
- I also actually made a game in it.
MV:
- Newer. (2015)
- Uses JavaScript for its plugins.
- Games are extremely laggy due to being browser based. Yes, MV uses HTML, JavaScript, and some other fancy thing.
- Feels just a bit more complex to use.
- Graphics are set at 48x48.
- More people use it in the modern age. Better go archive the RPG Maker Forums while they're still up!!!
- The RTP SUCKS!!!
- I didn't make a game in it, but I'm still glad I bought it. Helped me realize I should use it as a stepping stone to find a better engine!!!
Oh yeah, I made the guild. Join if you'd like!!!
