Unfortunately not, they are fully deleted from the server when you delete them  It should have given you a "Are you sure you want to do this" alert though?

I made a Tiny Batman Head artifact, from Dinosaur Comics by Ryan North. The picture is not by me (i suspect it's not by Ryan either), i just edited it to bring down the fie size.

As for the economy, what about Melon's vote-based system? I'm curious to see how that would work in practice on any scale.

I'm not sure how exactly that would map to the artifact trade. What polls are you requesting with your request votes? Would this tie into actual changes to the structure and governance of the forum? If this is bigger than artifacts, what else can complete votes be spent on?

I do think this would probably work better if active votes were given out weekly instead of monthly. Just scaling that part down because this is a website and not a physical place where people live.
Ok, i've had a day to reread the democratism proposal and think about this. I think it wouldn't work for just artifacts. Artifacts, once they're made, are goods. Melon's democratism assumes goods are owned by everyone, and what you buy is labor. Services.
Unrelated: Since the artifact box is apparently not sorted, would it be practical to let us drag and drop artifacts, and make their positions persistant?

Also, is there already a way to include licensing information or information about the source for artifacts that aren't original?

Ok, so I'll try to explain it as best as possible in my own words.

So you see there are those monkey trinkets back in 2020 called NFTs. NFTs are images you trade with real world money despite having no real value outside of its price. Also you add NFTs via the blockchain and then you wait until somebody buys it at a fixed price. That's the TL;DR but if you want to you can watch a youtuber talk about it.

Artifacts are basically just like that, you add pngs or gifs to a ledger and you wait until somebody buys them but with fantasy currency, so it's still a ponzi scheme but it's safe to trade with. It's more of a game if anything. 

Methinks I'll add something like that to my website once I can for fun.

Hehe, I'm unfortunately well aware of the NFT boom a few years back, it was agonizing to watch, but I do like how you explained it!

Um I'm not sure I know how it works. I printed 6 pokeballs to give to other users as a gag, but I don't think it lets me and I'm not sure why. 

I have way more than 1 credit to pay the gift, so it's strange that I can't give them to anybody. Now I just have 6 pokeballs sitting in my garden.

There as been a bit of confusion about this

Prints are almost exclusively intended for avatar clothing items. You can enchant an artifact with clothing, put it in a printer, then share the printer link with people who can then get a print that artifact to wear - this means you dont have to manually make a new clothing artifact every time someone wants to use a clothing item you created. Prints cant be re-swapped or given away, they can only be deleted if you don't want them any more; they are basically fast fashion.

Normal artifacts have to be manually created, these can be given as gifts and they can be reswapped.

Ah I understand the idea behind it, let me share my mindset going into it

Regular artifacts are intended to be swapped around and gain value based on how much its been traded around, with those swap credits going back to the person who had it last. But going into things with only 3 swap credits plus the enchanting costing more to do, I just kind of approached it as if I wanted things to have an air of exclusivity or not. Prints are infinite so thats my "shop stock" effectively, and if I wanted to do an adopt that would be when I'd use the finite trade system. Cause after all someone can encounter a favorite and lock it down at any point in the chain.

I think we dont have enough clothes to begin with, "newbie gear" if you will, to have made the clothing enchantment that enticing at first. Thoughts from recently being on gaiaonline a lot :P

Its the difficult process of trying to bootstrap a virtual world out of a bunch of random forum features that started as completely different things

For example, why do people want artifacts? At the moment the only things to do with them are, swap them, wear them on the street, show them next to your posts, or enchant them to have cloths for the avatar builder.

That list clearly needs to grow over time (and it will!) - for example, maybe there will be things that consume artifacts (like feeding them to the beast), maybe you can place them on the street and they sit there, maybe you can combine them to create new things.

We don't have a culture of pixel art clothes drawing yet (its mostly larva), but I think its a really fun activity to start up; and also the avatar builder is still a random side feature not many people know, so there's not much push to make things for it yet; that'll take some time and work to change.

I'm also aware the prints system kinda suggests that you should swap artifacts a few times before printing them to get the print value up; but no one is actually doing that because they don't wanna swap artifacts they just wanna print (which makes sense).

I don't have a plan or a point to say, but I do very much like hearing peoples ideas since its basically an mini mmo that is evolving

I messed with the avatar builder a bit and now I think I understand the appeal of clothing enchantments. I think once we get more people using and showing it off will get more people to hop on. In my head right now it feels like picmix with a fake stock market (affectionate)

Not sure if this is intended behavior, but I enchanted the butterfly that was an artifact not created by me, but I cant seem to put it as a printer for other people to have it as a avatar flair. I can also anticipate prices and economy getting stupid but in a way I'm fond of. I like stupidly expensive stuff with digital currency because it feels like an accomplishment. (not the same feeling irl unfortunately!)
