I used Melon's gallery maker for my site, and I appreciate how easy it was to use. But I don't understand how to customize it. I see all the examples on the itch.io page, but I don't think it explains how to use those templates or create your own. I want it to look somewhat Win98 themed, with links to different folders in a fake Win98 prompt. Additionally, it features a back button to return to the index in another prompt. Can somebody better at the gallery maker help me with this?

The gallery uses template files, so you modify the templates to modify how your gallery will be generated.

In simple steps:
  • Select your source folder
  • A button will appear saying "Open the Templates folder" - click it
  • This will open the gallery template HTML and CSS files
  • Modify the templates to your liking
  • Regenerate your gallery

(aside you may need to manually upload your new html and css files because the neocities api is very unreliable and often just does not work  :drat:)

Thank you! I was worried it was a lil dumb, but that's so helpful

Thanks for replying to my post asking for help w the templates. One thing I'm curious abt is how to actually code a template myself. WOuld you mind giving me advice on that? Like I said, I was gonna aim for a Win98 aesthetic. Haven't fully figured out how the end product would look, but that's at least the concept I have. I like ur websites, very interesting coding!

how to actually code a template myself.
Templates are just generic HTML and CSS with a few added {placeholders} - so you just code a normal HTML webpage and add in the placeholders where you want information to appear. The placeholders themselves are self explanatory; and beyond that you just need to learn how to code a webpage :ok:
