NETPETS - a HTML based game/webring (NOW OPEN!!!)

Hello hello, have you ever wanted a game whose style is similar to pokemon, where you can catch and find pets on the net?

Well NETPETS is for you! When the project starts, this thread will have links to webpages. click on a link, it'll take you to a website, and you have to find the pet! It may be hidden in many strange places, or even hidden behind another graphic! The point of this game is to find new websites, and make new friends! I want people to explore personal websites more, and see what kinda content they are hosting!

Once you find a pet, you will download its image and put it on your website (the pet will link back to the website)


Applications are OPEN, our NETDEX currently only features 4 NETPETS so far.

To apply, please PM me your website, name, pet and the page where the pet is found. It'll be added in a timely manner.

So this is a system for catching monsters that live in web pages. I have questions.

Is there anything to Netpets beyond finding them? Pokémon and every clone i know have battles. Do these do anything once they're on your site?

If finding one is as simple as finding a picture of one and putting that on your site, what's to stop someone from "finding" Netpets in someone else's gallery of found pets instead of searching for hidden ones?

Do you have any designs already, or just the concept?

As of now, you can only catch them. I will maybe add a battle system when I can.

Second of all, it only ruins the fun that person. The goal of the game is to find new websites and make new friends, and it just ruins their fun.

currently, I am waiting for some submissions, but I will work on my own for my website!

UPDATE:

I have decided to make this a MeloonLand project! It will be posted on here, with its own guild for the NETPETS creators. We are still looking to launch with 3 pets, 2 are made already, so we only need 1 more and the project will be launched! Im so excited to start this with you all!

This is literally the same mechanic for Squisherz from hypnospace outlaw where you have to find these creatures on random pages of a geocities-esque site. Not that I'm accusing you of plagiarism but I just think it's funny coincidence.

Fun fact: It was inspired by HypnoSpace actually! I thought the concept was so neat that we should do it on our actual websites.. but way simpler lol.

Every Netpet is sent to me directly, so I make sure the pet is actually there.

NETPETS is nearly ready to launch! I will launch It tomorrow, and my own pet will launch at a later date. Applications are always open btw :)!

NETPETS IS OPEN!

The mascot isn't made yet, so this is a soft launch. The mascot will be hosted on my website, but also a starter NETPET that you'll be able to put on your website as to start your collection. Also remember, do not hot link the pets, host it on your own website please!

Are there size requirements for the netpet? Like say, they're all 200x300px, or something like that...

Nope! NETPETs are free to be whatever size or aestheic you want!

Oh yeah, one more question: is the NAME part for us or for the pet? Like a species name? 

I've got one Netpet ready to go... couldn't help but design one! Love the idea of virtual creatures and all of that, you know. Making them web-themed sounds fun  Maybe we could be more straightforward about it than Digimon
