a while ago, while staying over at a friends house so we could work on our battle vests together, we both got bored and went on a search for horror movies to watch, in true sleepover fashion.
the movie we ended up watching was spookies (1986), and since then, it has become one of our biggest inside jokes. it has the most batshit plot ever, and the ending scene is a 5 minute chase scene, just for shits and giggles. and I love it :loved:
is there any movies that have made y'all feel this way?? just movies that are total ass but you have a huge connection to? it brings me so much warmth and joy that at least someone will always love a piece of media

This one is obvious but the 1995 Film Hackers, not a bad movie if you're into ridiculous action movies!

I also love all the Sharknado movies, they're so funny to me  :wizard:  :ozwomp:  :dog:

The 1994 Street Fighter movie is such a wonderfully campy mess of a film and I can't help but love it. Raul Julia as M. Bison is such a joy to watch

my fav bad movie is probably tokyo gore police. it has a shitty english dub, is in poor taste, & feels like it was written by an edgy teen who saw robocop one too many times. but it's also fun!!

I'm a longtime fan of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 and its later incarnation, Rifftrax, so I have seen many, many bad movies. I even own some! The Room is always a great watch, whether you watch it with the funny commentaries or not. Birdemic is another great one.

One that I've seen several times via Rifftrax and enjoyed unironically is The Apple, an over-the-top musical that cost so much to make there was no way it was ever going to make the money back. The story is weird, yet somehow still cliche, and the music is not altogether bad (it's a musical!). The setting is so over the top that it's impossible to take seriously, and ends with a literal deus ex machina, like they weren't even sure how to wrap everything up properly. It's one I like to recommend because it's great fun, and isn't one of the more well-known "so bad it's good" terrible films.

cracks knuckles. my time has come.
bad movies come in all kinds of categories these days, and i kinda love it. there's vintage shlock, tubi slop, immensely weird indie stuff, box office flops, and everything in between.
of those, some of my favourites are...

vintage shlock:
- jesus christ vampire hunter: an easter classic! the fact our protagonist is jesus is honestly kinda negligible. kind of related to a bunch of other niche cheesy action movies by the same director, but i haven't seen those and this movie's a blast without any context. literally so unserious. also, lots of lesbians.
- slumber party massacre 2: have not seen the prequel and have no intentions of doing so. awesome original soundtrack, incredibly campy antagonist (he's a ghost who's a greaser and he kills people with an electric guitar that's also a drill), what's not to love?

tubi slop:
- shark side of the moon: really poorly made tubi original about evil soviet humanoid sharks on, you guessed it, the moon. my girlfriend loves this movie.
- yorkie werewolf: SOOOO stupid!!! witch girl becomes a werewolf and is the key to ending the war between creatures of the night and the mafia. pasta ensues.

immensely weird indie stuff:
- wolfcop: really silly and unserious saskatchewan-based film about a cop who becomes a werewolf. random homoerotic undertones and a very crass sense of humour. my girlfriend's best friend put me onto this one and it's kinda awesome.
- puppy: really bad really fun college(?) film about an evil puppy from viking times that kills and eats people. gratuitous violence, crude humour, and unnecessary nudity. really liberal with cheesy sound effects.

box office flops:
- tomorrowland: okay this one is unironically quite close to my heart because some of the philosophies and character dynamics remind me of my father.
- velvet buzzsaw: okay this was produced by netflix so idk if it counts as a box office flop but this was SOOOOOO silly!!! jake gyllenhaal plays a bisexual art critic named like morf or something and him and all his friends get murked by cursed art pieces in a gallery. what's not to love?

also, i have a soft spot for some bad kids' movies, like the descendants series and the new monster high movie. my friends and i watch that kinda stuff on call together sometimes, and heckle a bunch too. bonus points if we can get our hands on an unfinished work print for maximum silliness! we also once got our hands on the emoji movie, but really bass boosted and with some really messed up subtitles that would just randomly share gambling ads or write out BOOM SMASHED IT AGAIN in all caps.

so many wonderful ways to enjoy bad movies!!!
