My local library has one that has free local calls and itnerestingly only works with credit cards, not physical money. I'd post a photo but I don't want to doxx myself. :/

There are no payphones left in my country since 2013, it makes me sad :( next time i come across one outside my country i'l be sure to post here though <3

I think there's a really interesting social dynamic about payphones that I'm not sure there are many analogues of today; they are public phones, they belong to everyone on the street and each person is free to use, decorate, destroy and associate with them - and whatever happens to them effects everyone who uses them equally.

Compare that to today where we all have private phones and it's a major social rule that you don't touch other people's phones. It's such a huge physiological contrast that's really intriguing to me

yeah! while i'm not old enough to have used them, there is value in the shared. there's no huge up front cost of having to buy your own. it's like with library books in a way -  not having to own something to use it is so valuable.

I remember the last payphone I stumbled on in the wild was at The Getty Museum in LA in late 2015. Dunno if it's still around though.

It was in really good shape! I'm guessing 'cause it was inside a museum, though!

There are two phone booths I recall seeing, one is just standing there in some artistic building, and the other was in a museum. Both are just decorations though
