Heyo All! Are there any other tarot readers here? I'd love to hear about your fav books and decks. Of late I've been really into historical tarots so I've been reading with the Jacque Vieville tarot (a very quirky deck) and a reproduction of the soprafino tarot. What's some of y'alls fav decks?

heya! i'm actually trying to get back into reading tarot again... just as a little self-reflection, grounding practice, and because of the circumstances of how i got my deck haha.
i have a swiss/jj deck from the 70s, which my grandmother gave me around my 20th birthday. she said it was too powerful for her liking, and always gave her bad readings... and then proceded to give it to lil ol' me  :dunno: i find it's brutally honest at times but still, i really enjoy just pulling a card a day as part of my routine.

I'm not serious reader, but an enthusiast. For me, Tarot is the Toth Tarot deck all along - I currently try to create a Pen&Paper system around it -, albeit I see that the Rider-Wait set has a charm of its own. And yes there are beautiful old sets, and the Soprafino one looks great :) - are you aware of the Sola Busca one?

My parents have also some sets at home; only last Christmas, my father showed me a set of cards called "Lenormand" and a set of cards with a highly problematic name (as it contains a derogatory slur against Romani people) that originated in Vienna at the end of the 19th-century - both were clearly products of the upcoming commercialized mass culture (much more than the two decks mentioned above that were created by somewhat reputable occultists), but the passed time also gives them a unique attraction - on top, especially the latter deck had some rather funny cards:

There is a nice little story on the German Wikipedia regarding Tarot:
When the Egyptians noticed that their empire was in decline, they discussed a way to preserve their knowledge, but nothing seemed enduring enough for them: For any language and culture would fall into oblivion after some time, paper would rot, and even painted or carved stones would eventually crumble. Searching for something that would never fade, they realized that the only thing in the world that would certainly exist as long as mankind was there was vice - and so they decided to entrust their wisdom to it.

I read tarot and I make decks too ^O^
If you look up cutetarot.com that's me
I've been reading for 10+ years but I favor cute, minimalist art over complex stuff, just in my personal collection

I like to read tarot -- mostly for other people! I only have one deck, which is the The Zenned Out Journey Tarot. I'd like to purchase another deck one day, but I definitely don't need to get into collecting them or anything. (I already have enough expensive collection hobbies, lol)

I started reading because my best friend got into it, and she had a really good friend that is extemely skilled at reading. I was apprehensive about the whole tarot thing (my mind goes to probabilities and confirmation biases), but after getting quite the exposing reading once I had to admit that something was going on. I picked up a Rider-Waite deck and shuffle from time to time. I'm not the strongest reader and still need to consult the internet a lot. I'm actually looking for a physical book to have with me while doing readings. And though it can be fun, I'm always afraid of getting a reading I really don't want. :trash: Reading for others is much easier.

I love tarot cards. I love them so much. I have been reading since I was a teenager and I'm 35 now. I started reading for friends before I learned how to read for myself, which was a very funny pathway. As I get older I get more interested in the history of the cards than in using them for divination or introspection, but I'd like to get back into a semi-regular habit. I have a 4-card 'day ahead' spread that I sometimes do in the morning, and during periods of time when I read often I definitely feel that I get into conversation with the cards. They can be brutal though huh  :tnt:

I have to shout out to this website: learntarot.com , I've scoured so many different books and sites over the years but her card interpretations are the ones I keep coming back to (and I know you indie web peeps are going to LOVE the timeless web design!!). I just last year tracked down a copy of her book - The Big Book of Tarot by Joan Bunning - so that I can have the interpretations readily to hand.

Does anyone have a favourite card? I have The Tower and The Star tattooed on my legs, and could talk about The Tower especially for days and days. I find change and lack of control (and being wrong!) to be negative and bad, so embracing this card positively is an ongoing way to try and be okay with those things, which are CONSTANTLY happening in this goddamn life. I eventually realised I needed to balance it out with a little of The Star.

I have about 6 decks, I pick them up here and there and have been gifted or traded quite a few over the years, so I try to gift-on decks when I get too many. It's tempting to collect, but I prefer to have them in use, so if I'm going years without touching a deck it's time to pass it on.

I have a couple of quite old Italian decks, but also a neo-pagan 'wiccan' one from the 90s which is VERY 90s, all women with high-waisted jeans and ponytails in rider-waite-esque scenarios. Some people love it, I like to let people choose what deck they want to be read from.

@cute I am checking out your website rn, cool!!
