Thinking about Youtube viewing; Often Ill rewatch the same video I like even if Im not getting new info from it.. New info is nice.. but its more the feeling of peace and certainty of having something familiar that Im there for.

Every now and then I'll find something new or unexpected, and thats great! That can be rare though even if Im looking for it, which seems strange because there is SO MUCH on YouTube.

I wonder if it's Youtube or if it's me, does youtube get boring, or do I? Maybe Im just more open sometimes!

Why do you watch youtube?

I wish I could find new and strange things on YouTube more often, but it's a pretty rare occurrence. I used to visit a content aggregate site that existed before Reddit and social media in general took over that sphere, and they would sometimes post the weirdest videos from YouTube.

But now I mostly just follow the same few channels that post regularly. Monstrum is a great series that does deep dives on different mythological creatures and cryptids. Outside Xbox/Xtra has a Dungeons and Dragons series as well as Blades in the Dark which are really entertaining. I'm actually watching the latest episode of Blades in the Dark right now.

College Humor used to be great for a laugh, and they eventually started Dimension 20 which had some free D& series on YouTube that were both hilarious and really well written. The first season of The Unsleeping City is my favourite D& series ever and involves an army of mutant Santa clones attacking New York. But most of their content now is exclusive to Dropout and requires a subscription.

I wish I could find more content like that, but every other channel I follow just posts top 10 lists related to movies, games and comics. It's mildly interesting but mostly just serves to fill time during the day.

I'm on YouTube a LOT. It bothers me immensely how awful its management has become. Still, my favourite creators remain on there so I'm stuck there. I love to watch informative videos on urban projects in cities, weird history, socialism, fashion, videos on movies... Also love funny videos like livestreams, let's plays and meme compilations. And I'm an avid fan of the unexplainable, creepy and scary, so when I'm in the mood I watch paranormal compilations, murder tales, backrooms videos and the such. Often I give videos my full attention. But I also like to scroll Tumblr or Reddit with the video playing in the corner or a splitscreen with Minecraft.

I watch a lot of youtube, afterall it's the biggest videosharing platform, and i like videos :pc:
And i also really like leaving random commentary on the background while i draw (music is too distracting, and podcasts require more focus) but i usually gravitate towards the same channels i like... when i find new cool stuff, it's usually suggest by someone/said channels i enjoy :ozwomp: I don't think that finding new cool stuff has to happen everyday, so i am happy with the rate of new cool things i find now :cheesy:

I am on Youtube because there is barely any spam protection or quality content on most Peertube instances.
I wish I had the server space to host my own, but alas.

All my favourite creators are on there and most YouTube alternatives don't have a lot of content that really interests me all that much. Besides, I watch most of my YouTube in Safari's picture-in-picture on my Mac, and I don't know if Vidlii or Bitview or whatever would work with it.

I've actually been trying to ease myself off Youtube.

In the absence of social media, my subconscious seems to have latched onto Youtube to get my fix. I see myself just scrolling on the homepage on my iPad constantly to try and find something new to watch, and get them dopamines.

I tried logging out to just get clickbaits at the home screen, but it didn't take long for the algorithm to get an idea of what videos I enjoy.

Nowadays, I only use it to watch videos from channels I subscribe to on Fraidycat, that I have no alternatives to, and use it to record songs onto cassette. :omg:k:
Also been downloading my all time favourites to put onto VHS.

i almost exclusively watch youtube for long-form analysis videos !
theyre good to have in the background while doing chores or grinding in games.
there are a couple youtubers who put in enough effort to be visually entertaining that ill watch their videos as the main form of entertainment
(usually its just a supplementary/background thing)

I wish there was an alternate to Youtube (y'know, that people actually used), but I really don't have any other choice. Video essays and media analysis are some of my biggest passions and you can only seem to get stuff like that on Youtube. I also really like horror channels like Nexpo or Goose Boose and I wouldn't give that stuff up for the world.

I am currently working on bringing high quality content, for example video essays, to a Peertube instance of my choosing. :4u: I'll link it in the forum when something's done.
The more people participate the more content there will be which draws in more people and so on.

Tutorials, informative/educational videos, lots of videogame-related stuff (mainly like unused/beta content and glitches), and occasionally stupid shit for mindless entertainment like YTPs.

Other than the occasional background video while I knit, I love watching a few select youtubers because it makes me feel young again. The feeling I got from picking up the gaming edition of Guinness world records, the excitement of the few gaming centred shows on TV, the feeling of the scholastic book fair. The few youtubers I watch consistently bring me back to those feelings and I adore it

For me, it is freemium TV. I get to choose what I want to watch and when I watch it. With things like sponsor block and adblockers help keep the awful ads from blowing out my eardrums or stopping the flow of what content I am watching.

Mainly, I use it for background noise and free-to-watch content!
My favorites consist of video essays like ones from the acclaimed youtuber shanspeare :cheesy: :cheesy: (i love her work) as well as tributes and essays to tumblr trends like strange aeons work
i have youtube on my tv so its basically my go-to to sit back and chill thru a free movie or content users have made
i also really enjoy "10 hour rain ambience videos" or video game osts to sleep to :omg:k:
