The newest console I have is a PS3 Slim, with the newest handheld I have being a New 2DS XL. It's got "New" in the name, so that's pretty new, right?

No and I most likely won’t get one anytime soon. I’m going to either save up for a steam deck, or get a 3ds and a ps2

my most "current" gen console is a switch (that's a few years old now), and i don't see myself getting another console for at least a few years. i have a ps4, and since new games are still compatible with it, i don't see a real reason to get a ps5; not only have they proven difficult to get one's hands on, there aren't any exciting features that come near to convincing me to spend that much money. and frankly? i hate the design of the ps5  ugly and not even in a charming, personality-filled way

I just bought a PS5 today. There are starting to be more games coming out that aren't playable on Xbox One or PS4, so it was time to upgrade. I originally hoped to be able to use the Steam Deck instead of buying a new console, but it's just not powerful enough to play brand new games without dropping the settings to the minimum and I can't be bothered to get back into proper PC gaming.

The store actually had both the PS5 and Xbox Series X in stock, which is the first time I've ever seen that. I'm more or less ambivalent about which is better, so the deciding factor for me came down to which console can play Demon's Souls

I've had a PS5 for about a year now. It took two attempts at the "buy a PS5 direct from Sony" lottery. The first time around, they were sold out by the time my turn came up. Now I see them bundled with God of War: Ragnarok at Costco.

I'm in that camp of only having a Switch, if that counts. I am kind of interested in a PS5, but it's currently mostly for Kingdom Hearts IV and the rest of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. I'm doing just fine with my PS4 getting cross-gen games like Sackboy A Big Adventure, Guilty Gear Strive, and Street Fighter 6.

Besides inevitable Square Enix stuff, it's going to take Sony reviving older series and/or the complete transition of fighting games to convince me to get one....and preferably a redesigned model.

i'm not invested enough in any current gen games to warrant buying a current gen console tbh. I feel like that's more my personality though -- i don't like current/recent things until they've faded into enough obscurity that I have to go /look/ for them.

Well I'm probably an outlier in this dataset since I have an NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Switch, Xbox, Xbox 360, Playstation, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Playstation 5. My family is full of collectors and I just happen to live in the house where they put things, so I've kinda got access to the whole suite!

I dont have a PS5, because I dont think there are any games on it that I am interested in as of now. And I reckon it will be a long time until that happens. At some point I will need a new desktop PC tho, since mine is about to crumble, and I want to invest in a really good gaming PC when that happens, but that'll probably be 1-2 years until. Or well, ideally, haha. My PC might just die at any moment (there's a start up issue), but if it keeps on keeping on, I don't see myself spending money on a gaming pc in this economy.

i do however have games on my win xp, my desktop (win7), and I have a PS2, PS3, PS4, PSP and a Nintendo DS xl.

I’ve only had an xbox 360 and a ps4 slim, the former was passed down to my cousin and the latter sold as I wasn’t really using it

No. I don't have any consoles right now as a matter of fact, though I do currently have my eyes on the original 2004 model Nintendo DS. I'm also hoping to own a CECHA01 model PS3 someday (and jailbreaking it to install some Guitar Hero 3 DLCs I found on the Internet Archive, of course).

I prefer 6th and 7th generation consoles and games over current ones, personally.

I have A series X but mostly use it as a backwards compatibility machine.  My pc is for my general gaming use.

Well as of the release of the Switch 2 I can officially say that I am totally locked out of the new gaming generation yayyyy  :unite: Well that's not totally true. The main reason why I haven't bought into the 9th console generation is just how easy it is to subsist on the 8th gen consoles due to so many games still coming out for 8th gen consoles. I bought a PS4 in 2023, even though I was planning on eventually buying a 5, because I got so damn tired of waiting for KH4 to come out (and it still isn't out or even has a release date, LOL) and there were a ton of PS4 games I had wanted to play for years now, namely FF14, Final Bar Line, KH3... Mostly Square Enix games, now that I think of it...

Anyway, my point being that with a PS4 you can still play a lot of current games. I think 5 years into the PS5 that's going to become less and less true but like, who's to say. Off the top of my head, Bubsy 4D and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii are two 2025 releases that I plan on getting on PS4. The Switch 2 is backwards compatible with the original Switch, which itself was a runaway success and considering how expensive and confusing the Switch 2 ecosystem is, I anticipate that plenty of games are going to get releases into 2026 and 27, though Nintendo may stop personally making new games for that console at that point. Honestly considering how popular Switch 1 is and how weak it is in terms of hardware, I can see new games *still* getting ports to PS4/XB1/SW for years to come. This console generation is pretty unique for that regard, the only one really coming close being the 7th gen. Sooo honestly I don't see myself buying into the 9th console generation any time soon. Maybe Switch 2 if Nintendo stops being so evil about it and the console gets a crazy price cut, or maybe PS5 a few years from now when it's likely to get a killer Black Friday deal or is just straight up super cheap to pick up secondhand. Either way I'm not going to be an active participant with the 9th console gen outside of last-gen ports of new games, and that's fine with me! Because of the games I am into and the fact that I own so many games I've yet to play, I'm perfectly fine with that
