in today's blog post, i address massive concern i've had for a long time: that humans have forgotten how to do things just for enjoyment. everything we do has to be a side hustle. we have to stay "productive". we have to make everything we create as bland and palatable to a wide audience as possible. why bother learning new things when chatGPT can just tell you everything? we have to take games very seriously, lest we become like those "filthy casuals". i hate it all. i just want humans to have fun again, man...

as always, here's an excerpt:
you want to go to a fun place? sure... if only it existed, and didn't take a 20-minute drive to get there. you want to learn or create something? sure... if only people stopped telling you to just use chatGPT. you want to start a new hobby? sure... if only tik tok influencers weren't expecting you to find a way to monetize it somehow. you want to play a new game? sure... if only other players of the game weren't taking it so seriously that they'd throw a fit when they lose. you want to decorate your living space/closet/website? sure... if only people didn't call anything more than white walls, gray/brown furniture, jeans, and black-text-on-white-backgrounds "tacky".

I've always been of belief that numbers in particular are a big contributor to this kinda thing, especially in the age of "technological innovation." Where people ship and look at a video game like tech demos, over art.

And it's easy to forget that sometimes its okay to just do something for the feeling of it, as long as its not harmful or mean. And I think that goes for everything even if fun isn't a derivative. :cheerR:

we have to make everything we create as bland and palatable to a wide audience as possible. why bother learning new things when chatGPT can just tell you everything?

This specifically is the side effect of capitalism merging with the internet. Social media became profitable and web spaces became advertisement havens, which caused people to lose sight of human art and creativity. Everyone is constantly selling you something on the internet and if they're not selling something to you, you are the product.

Capitalism has literally seeped into every crevice of humanity (where applicable) and because of this, humans have no time for fun. They have no time for pleasure. Everything needs to be convenient and quick in order to save time to work yourself to death. Now even entertainment has to be quick and seamless. Short for content that is easy to digest and requires no effort on your part. it's killing us. Now with ChatGPT like you said, there's less of a reason to put any effort to learn or research because there's an easier quicker way. :/

It is very true. I try to hold out hope that people and culture do find a way past all the capitalism scarring.. But it gets harder every year ya know? Hank Green made a video on the soullessness of new years eve, with some pretty interesting points related. And as corny as it may sound, I found a lot of inspiration from the smoker sign he covers in it.  :ok:

Hope you do as well!

yeah, i'm... quite passionate about this topic and how much i believe it's hurting humans. i've written many other blog posts about it. after living with it enough years, i had to find some way to get my thoughts/complaints out there

This is... as true as it is depressing. -w- You have put a lot of common scares onto digital paper and I agree wholeheartedly to your post. There's a lot less color, hope, will to break the mold. But are we able to stop the cycle?

Now that you've had an entry detailing acknowledgement of the situation, your next blog post can be more reactive and show ways to once again train oneself to be fun, stop worrying about hustle culture, or do things for the thing's sake and not anything else.
