i’m trying to brush up on my fundamentals by doing anatomy studies, but i often get stumped because i’m not sure where to look. i’ve tried pinterest, but most photos i can find are either drawn studies other people have done, or photos of mostly thin & conventionally attractive models. i want to practice drawing lots of different faces and body types, so that doesn’t really do it for me.

do you guys have any particular books or websites you typically go to to look for diverse references?

i would recommend finding some life drawing sessions being held around where you live, if that's accessible for you. here in toronto we have quite a few of these offered, some even for free on certain days!

for more accessible resources, what i've done was to find some yoga demo videos and try to draw the instructor while they hold their poses. it helps to have that hybrid of live movement and being able to pause. i've also done zeet studio sketch sessions, but the models do tend to fall in the "conventionally attractive" lane -- at least the costumes are diverse!

i tried to search for some other life drawing sessions online, and i found this website called Love Life Drawing. i haven't tried it for myself and it looks like it's one of those free subscriptions(?) not sure about how it works, but from the preview references the models are diverse! might be what you're looking for  :dive:

I'm no artist, but I know that there are art academies and consequently books on anatomy you can probably make good use of.

I just searched for "art anatomy" on archive.org, I think it's worth going through some of them to see if you find what you're looking for.

Other options I can think of include wikimedia commons (it's very generalistic, but worth a shot) and if you have one your local library.

https://www.adorkastock.com/ is one of my favorites. They were active ages ago on Deviant Art (and I think you can still find their account on there for their old photos). They take a variety of shots of various models under different themes, and publish them under the Creative Commons license. Some of their packs are paid, but they also have a good number of free ones available. And the ones that aren't are still pretty affordable.

I don't have any others on hand, but there are a number of other pose artists and models on Deviant Art who publish artist references if you're willing to go looking for them. They are usually far more inclusive than traditional artist model resources, as is the one I linked above.

https://line-of-action.com/ has been around forever and is still pretty much the definitive far as I'm aware. Happy drawing :)
