crossposting from my socialz: any hypnospace outlaw fans with personal sites out there interested in perhaps making a webring or collaborative page archive....? like, making a hub 'zone' and linking our hypnospace pages on there? smile... i'm working on hypnospace page templates that work with html, i think it'd be a fun recreation / dedication project :-) example hub page below...

What a neat idea. It'd be a fun exercise to make a 1999-accurate section page to my little fan-site for this, and combine two of the things I really enjoy- sign me up!

Thanks to everyone who replied wow wow!! Here's my current progress:

• a hub page, a la the Hypnospace Enforcer hub
• individual page templates including the "Default" template, the "Bubblegum" template, and a freestyle one which is essentially blank and allows you to do whatever. (This is all based on the prior work of ranmpy on neocities, who made the original template I forked from seen here!!)
• game-accurate cursors, fonts, and formatting stuff (like the dashed line that appears around links when hovered)

So far what needs to be worked on:

• A game-accurate music player! (The CSS is actually all worked on, but the javascript functionality isn't. if anyone has tips for this let me know... also, the custom cursor messes up when hovering on the bottom of the button which is sooo annoying, perhaps once the code is in a usable state I can upload it somewhere other coders can take a peek at?
• The actual site structure: I'm thinking that it could be a webring-like structure, where the hub page(s) are hosted by me, which then link out to people's individual pages on their own sites. This allows for everyone to have as much control of their own pages as possible while still having that interconnection that makes Hypnospace so wonderful to explore. Let me know if you'd be in favor of this structure or if there is some other way that's favored ^_^
• Working tags: In Hypnospace there are also page tags that you can use to get around; it'd be cool to add functionality to that! Right now they exist in the templates but are solely aesthetic. I'm thinking they could lead to subpages on the hub or a list that filters through with js to show you other people with those tags.

That is SUCH A CUTE IDEA omg. I completely forgot abt the in-game badges... First off I'm absolutely putting this on my page... second off, I think it'd be awesome to have a similar functionality in addition to the tag system.

Is anyone in the Hypnospace Outlaw official Discord server? I wonder if there would be people in there interested in this kinda thing. I know there have been other similar projects to recreate Hypnospace things on Neocities, but from what I've seen, none of them seem currently active. I'd love to get more people involved if they're interested while still keeping the whole project manageable and (ideally) community driven, thus a more webring-like approach. Eagerly awaiting your replies and thanks again for your interest :-3

ooh that would be cool...!! i kind of got away from myself and have incorporated some more hypnospace-esque elements that are like... an explorer header where you can navigate links and whatnot. however, there isn't really a 'go between pages' functionality there so i wouldn't mind having a widget or frame for that.

i set up a tumblr for correspondence at millenium-anthem.tumblr.com as well as here lol. pretty much it's 80% ready to go... however, i only currently have the cafe ported as a zone. PLEASE PLEASE let me know if you have any zone ideas.... i want to go all out, make custom backgrounds and headers and everything. smile.

also, here's a wip of a mascot for the webring. as of yet unnamed but i'm open to suggestions.

You're right: the explorer header doesn't need the surf club's go-to-the-next-page functionality, but I was also thinking in terms of how the header would be applied to all participating pages. But you've probably got an idea for that already! I'm really excited to see everything you're coming up with!

I love the mascot! You could make it into an "assistant" like Doctor Helper or HYPII ... : P I found this cool Website-Buddy-Webring by DarkoSparko a while ago and have been considering adding this or something similar to my page.

I don't have a tublr account, I'm afraid.

Zones-Wise you could just go with the familiar zones from the game? Did you imagine everyone creating dedicated hypnospace-style webpages for this project or did you think of just the regular personal homepages? I'm guessing the latter?

that helper is PERFECT!! will definitely incorporate that >:-)

i have it currently set up that you CAN do hypnospace-themed css with game accurate visuals by downloading and editing html templates, but it's not mandatory. all i really would say is it should be hypnospace- or retro-web- themed in some way. so i imagine many people's pages would be personal pages.

i guess i could add the game's zones first and then if people really want more / custom zones they can suggest them!

Seconding the 'game zones first' idea, though I was wondering how you plan on handling the whole 'Freelands' area when it comes to the webring's space for fandom/media sites, as someone who wants to join, but doesn't use neocities for anything personal... I'm not asking for it- I have the barest of bones experience in coding myself, and even I can see that'd be difficult- but I was just wondering...

As for names for our little friend, if you still haven't one yet, maybe something like 'quartz'? The lab-grown variety is used in making computers and timepieces..

The work you've done so far looks really good by the way, I am still very excited for this!!

the whole 'Freelands' area

No idea what infini may have planned for this, but personally I'd focus on the Zones system for a start, and maybe something like the freelands can be added later? Just as it wasn't a planned merchantsoft feature in the game. I was wondering though, whether there should be the one "Starport Castle Dreamstation" zone, or the five original zones from before the merge? : D

I love the concept of the freelands as well, btw. My Castle Grounds are somewhat influenced by it, and I found this unfortunately abandoned attempt at recreating the freelands in neocities a while ago. : D

this sounds really cute. I dont think I would be able to participate but the prospect of browsing peoples pages like that does seem pretty fun. I beat Hypnospace Outlaw on Xbox Game Pass at first and then bought it on steam with the Broken Reality bundle. I like the Teen zone and how cutely inept a lot of the pages are

played the everloving hell out of Hypnospace, even messed around with it's site editor a while ago - can't find any screenshots of what i made back then :p -, like it's one of my favorite games of all time, it's just really fun.

would love to join a webring of this kind. i'll be looking at this thread a lot.
