If you have 6 months to re-code all four themes using responsive divs instead of table based layouts; while maintaining compatibility with plugins that go back to 2008, on forum software that's no longer maintained; and while still maintaining the aesthetic feel of a 90s forum ... and you're willing to do it for free, then you're hired

EDIT: Ok I'll give a less sarcastic answer ~ the best thing we could do is add an extra theme that's aimed at mobile use; such as https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?theme=2806 - it would not really be easy to maintain any soul on a theme like that, but it would offer basic functionality even if bits of it were still kinda broken.

As someone who already uses the most simple theme to check the Forum on mobile, I wouldn't mind a minimalist layout for mobile at all. Responsivity first I'd say.

A new mobile theme is now complete and should auto load if you request the mobile site on phones! Sorry if my last reply was a tad grumpy; I have my moments Also omg its such a huge improvement, thank you for pushing me to look into this more!

Okay, this may be a VERY long stretch and I can totally see why you'd say no, BUT:

It would be SO COOL if you could put your own Crystal Cafe box in your site that connected to the main one! Like, being able to send/read messages from across the web with a shared chat box would be really cool I think ^^
Of course, on mondays you'd have to make the iframe show something funny..

This mobile theme is great! Documenting a few wonky things:

On my main iOS browser, I clicked Full Site. How do I get back to mobile there? I think I’m stuck in full site now. (I switched browsers to test more and write this post reply.)

When typing a long-ish post (like the one I’m typing now) I can’t scroll down or up within this text area.

Minor but noticed dragging down page topic cells oddly highlight purple and then clicking into one makes text turn white on white.

Profile pages don’t render responsively. Probably a duh but documenting.

Within a thread, plus icon covers up first post gear icon preventing use (e.g. view user profile). Not a biggie since can click link instead, etc.

I'm not against this at all; I did some tests and was able to get it to kinda work ~ but it seems like it needs a lot of modding to actually make it usable. I will add it to the todo list!

i’m back to thread with a silly suggestion edition. y'all remember the net with sandra bullock? there’s a few scenes where she chats with her buddies cyberbob and iceman etc online. it’s called CYBER CHAT. Here’s a clip:

what could possibly be cooler than adjusting ?action=shoutbox;popup to be CYBER CHAT?! the little cyber chat logo blue green yellow animation, sound effects on TALK button click. online user avatar list. beep beep on new message. text to speech (see my website blog for functional example of js based tts). would be so cool! even just the avatar list, tts, and larger text with chicago font to kinda match would be dope

I second this. This would be so fun. Plus this forum is full of goofy weirdly specific references (we literally use .beats as time) so why not this?

This is super cool! I don't think it would fit the main theme - but I also see no reason why people should not be able to set their own custom forum CSS - that's something worth adding.

As for the popup chat; yess that's a great idea, we could totally use it there; that popup needs a lot of work. I was looking at this a potentially an improved replacement/expansion of the shoutbox - Id like to look at the shoutbox code a bit more though to see what can be done with it.
