I do actually! I got an iPod 5th Gen last year and I modded it to replace the 40GB HDD with a 128GB SD card and put in a bigger battery (also a clear front shell)! I also put a lot of effort into downloading/ripping whole albums from artists I really liked and I already had a good pair of old wired earphones. So all those things combined make it a really good experience.

I think it helped my taste music in general; instead of skipping to songs constantly it forced me to listen to whole albums and slow down n really listen, I recommend it! :4u:

Can you transfer files over network connection or do you have to plug it in and such? :omg: Hella cool btw!

No, pre-touch iPods don't have any networking, they need to be plugged in to transfer files. This iPod is still going strong! I considered getting a bigger SD card for it since my library is now bigger than 128GB; but I've just been more selective about what I put on it and that's been a good plan too!

I'm kinda picky about sound-quality on things and I from my testing, aesthetics aside, the iPod sounds better than the iPhone 4, and the iPhone 4 sounds better than an iPhone SE (the last one with a headphone jack) - I think over time they were de-emphasizing sound quality on the headphone jack. (based on this, if anyone is considering an iPod Touch, I think the 4th gen would be better for music than the newer ones :omg:)

I still have my IPod nano 5th gen from childhood, unfortunately it's one that Apple made hard to hack and it won't allow me to just put music on it from my computer  . I'm keeping my eye out for either a really cheap mp3 player or a way to hack the nano, I'd love to be able to listen to my music offline again while I'm working.

My fiancée and I started ripping all our CDs and listening to the mp3s on our PSPs (we already had these for gaming). They work really well for this purpose! I recently bought a clear acrylic case for mine too, so I'll be decorating it with stickers soon.  :ha:

I was considering buying a used classic iPod too, just for fun, but it seems they've gone up in price recently due to the "analog trend".  :drat:

I'm eyeing Snowsky MP3 players. People look down on Chinese brands, but in the audiophile community, Fiio (Chinese audio brand) is beloved. Second-hand MP3s right now are overpriced. Super inflated, I would not spend more than 20 a pop for 10-30 years old MP3 player IMO cause the battery is prob no good. THEY ARE DREAMING IF I AM BUYING THEIR 80-100 A POP ANCIENT BUSTED BATTERY NUGS!!

I used to have an iPod (stolen from my mum) was like the ones with circular buttons and a touch-screen one. I don't care for the nostalgia. I just want to listen to my CDs and leave ads

I have an iPod Classic that's at least 11 and at most 19 years old. I bought it used in 2015 or so, enamored of its 80GB hard drive. Last year, I finally modded it to have a 30,000 mAh battery and use a 128GB microSD for storage. Unfortunately, due to firmware restrictions, I can't go bigger than that without rooting the device, but I don't mind. I have a Bluetooth adapter I can plug into it to use with wireless headphones, but I also like using it with wired cans. It can't sync with newer versions of iTunes or something, so I have to use iTunes 12 forever. It's kinda cumbersome to make playlists on the fly but I do it anyways and rename them when I get home.

I love it to pieces.

Same here! I actually picked up the Snowsky Echo Mini after hearing about it right here in the Melonland Forum. With the in-ear monitors I bought with it, it's made listening to music way more enjoyable.

The physical buttons might literally be the best part lol :ha:

I have a RCA TH2002 and a ASUS S102. Which I know the ASUS S102 isn't the normal MP3 player look because it is a GPS, but it can play MP3 music with 1gb of storage!

So real lol. I just want something that's insanely simple and doesn't do anything more than play music. The nostalgia hype around old iPods is kinda cool but I'd much rather get a lame looking new device :3. I'll check out Snowsky tonight. As long as it has Bluetooth; that's a modern luxury I'd really rather not live without lol

For those interested in new DAPs, I have a Snowsky Echo Mini and I love it. The battery life isn't the best when you're listening to .flac files, but it does exactly what I need it to with decent entry level audiophile hardware for those interested. I mostly listen to it on a full speaker setup, but its great for travel as well.

You can definitely do more with other DAPs, but its good for cheap. I'd like to get a classic iPod to mod some day, but that seemed like it was going to be annoying more than anything when I was really diving in.

I'd love to increase the storage in my iPod someday. I'll buy an iFlash or other equivalent at some point so I can do it, but alas, it'll probably have to wait for now (would love to do it soon though).

I run it with rockbox software to get all the benefits of non-stock OS. It still runs with its original 30GB hard drive.

i had heard of rockbox, but i never checked out the site until now. their flashing program is really hype, it honestly makes me wish i had an ipod just to try it. i have an ipod mini 2nd gen, but its hdd is broken or something, it boots to a deadpod icon and the apple support-for-ipod link, which is dead :-(

i use my iphone for my portable music needs, it runs the foobar2000 app. i want to get the experimental build of rockbox for 3ds, since i want to shift away from my phone. i only want to use it for the cellular hotspot. my 3ds can check the weather, google maps, discord, a lot of modern non-JS sites, and it has Pomegranite for music but i barely use it as a player and i havent updated/synced its library in a while. im gonna try out that rockbox build and see if i like it. rockbox has a lot of those little bits that divide mp3 players from, like, ipod levels of playing. i dunno. i mean like e.g. album grid for selection, disc seperation/grouping (for multi-disc albums), dynamically-updated playlists (like genre or whatever), fancy types of sorting (track length, 72nd letter of album name or something), etc... and while i dont NEEEEEEEED all the fancy parts im more inclined to use a thing as a player if it has more capability (for example 3DS' Pomegranite doesnt let you make playlists or queue up any music, and the 3DS Sound app lets you make playlists but not queue up music...), and i dunno the rockbox situation but it seems pretty complete as far as i know. i think if i were to want any one specific feature i'd want a player that comes with bits for library syncing, my dream would be a 3ds app that lets you use RSYNC/SCP to sync your library, but alas all i have is FTP. blablabla i like music ok
