ive had a few over the years... hopefully nobody minds a quick recap

Yukikaze (2006)

iocus (KDE/XP) (2009)

SLAB SERIF / SOLUS SERIFA (KDE) / SOLUS SERIFA (TDE) (2010)

SANGRE (2024)

not pictured: a PowerPC laptop and an i386 macbook air, because i barely used them and they basically looked like the default desktops for their OSes

Here's how I customized my XFCE desktop on Linux Mint. The later is from an earlier point, but I wanted to show off the taskbar/panel background I use.
The music player is AIMP, but its Linux compatibility is still in beta testing. So I have Strawberry as a backup, in case, it doesn't work.
i like the cassette player ui, its very unique :-o

Awwww man I love seeing everyone's decked out desktops, especially on Linux too!!  :dive:  Really makes me wanna dive into my own version of Linux and play with the customization more haha.

Below is my main desktop on PC!

And my second desktop on my laptop with Linux Mint installed! (This is an older screenshot from June, but tbh not much has changed since dsgfsdhls)

Soooo, yeah. Mine's a bit complicated. Click to embiggen:

By way of explanation:

  • I run multiple monitors (too many monitors?). Many are on switches so I can change which computer they're connected to at any given time.
  • I also run multiple computers; I chop and change, but right now I've got Rebel (i7 running Windows), Mora (M4 running MacOS), Foo (M4 running MacOS, belongs to work) and Pia (i5 running Debian Linux) running my desktops; Fox (Xeon running Slackware Linux) is also running but isn't connected to a monitor right now (unless I press a button under my desk to change that)
  • They're all connected into a single "super-desktop" using Deskflow (which I switched to from Barrier, which I switched to from Synergy); I've got one keyboard and mouse that's connected to them all and I just move my cursor to the side of one screen and into the next.
  • I've also got a mini keyboard I've built to act as a control panel spanning them all, so I can simultaneously lock them all when I step away from my desk (also: so I can "teleport" my mouse cursor to a particular computer/monitor if I "lose" it, which happens more often than I'd like to admit)
  • As for my desktops themselves: I keep them pretty minimalist - just a basic wallpaper: my thinking is that if I can see the wallpaper, I'm not really "using" the computer in the first place! Similarly, I've never found a "desktop" a good place to keep icons, so my desktops are usually pretty clear.

I don't know if the above is really interesting (because a "desktop" for me is a bit different than it is for most people) or really boring (because I've put literally no thought into my wallpaper, don't have any icons, etc.)! You tell me!

thanks!! the only reason i decided to beta test aimp is when i was still on windows 10, it quickly became my favorite audio player. it had cool themes/skins & is probably the most feature rich player i've used. however on linux, i found the audio quality to be inconsistent for lack of a better word. it turns out they used to just have the "linux app" be the windows app but shipped with wine. but they're working on better compatibility with linux. so i figured why not give it a shot
