Some people like my family & certain friends know certain details, but even then I'm selective about what details they know. For example, I might tell people I have a personal website, but I don't show them my website because I'm worried about outing myself kinda. Also it doesn't come up much in conversation with people I know offline.

My online social life at this point is just my website, email, and group chats with people I know IRL. I share some posts from my website with my friends, and I usually receive good feedback, but I don't think they check regularly because none of my IRL friends know what RSS is. Also, none of my IRL people really know about the Indie Web or find the ethos compatible. I told one person about Neocities and they literally said "I don't get it... there's no algorithm."

At times I'll try to evangelize about it to my friends, but they don't really have any compelling reasons to start their own site. A lot of them don't spend a whole lot of time on social media as it is, but still have accounts to maintain appearances. Truth be told, I do feel a bit separated from my friends because of how much I've gotten into the Indie Web, but I also know that there's more to life than a few small corners of the internet.

I don't really know who all is engaging with my site because I don't use any analytics, and I don't care to. People who like what I write about send me positive messages through my guestbook or email, and that's fine with me. I think that whoever comes across my site, IRL or otherwise, can appreciate a large catalog of writing that doesn't try to sell anything to them and tries to approach life from a perspective that feels relatable.

Even if just one person feels less alone because of my site, that's all that matters.

This is so funny to me because my avatar on Microsoft Teams at work is the same as my avatar here and it's just my fursona   LOL like when I join a meeting and I'm just using voice my name shows up with my fursona lighting up as I talk idgaf I've been mask off Weird and unabashed neurodivergent at work more and more lately and it's so liberating  :ozwomp:

hmmmmmm.

well, i must admit when i first posted in this thread, i was already reflecting upon myself - sometimes it only takes the slightest nudge for things to change.

going to start changing out my profile picture across a few social media platforms and being a bit more open, just to see what it feels like and to see what happens - i don't want to hide from some imaginary person that I made up anymore

none of my family knows about my website for different reasons.
i don't mention it to my "techy" relatives, so they don't even suspect that I have a website.
it would be hard to find unless someone really really wants to doxx me.
and some of my relatives aren't interested in the internet at all, except for the messengers.

none of my friends knows how to find my personal website. they are aware of its existence, but that's it.
i tried sharing some personal things with a few friends, but i ended up deleting my things / changing usernames.
we talked about it later, and they respect my boundaries. U_U 人

sometimes i share my "useful" / educational websites (like PDFs collection, tutorials, etc.) that aren't related to my personal stuff.

i am a very anxious person (with a sprinkle of paranoid ideation), and paradoxically, i feel less threatened by sharing something ± personal with internet strangers than with someone close to me.

some things are only for me... and sometimes for random internet strangers that are verrrry far away. :P

Is this how you honor MelonLand Forum, and the tribe unmourned? Write to me openly, and not by stealth.

Yeah, that seems like a really cool idea to try and start getting more comforable with sharing more stuff online. I think my current school Microsoft account profile pic is a random drawing I set because I was prompted to just set something when I created the account and I just went to pick something, but being more intentional with using my own characters would be a good idea maybe. One or two other accounts that I've seen in my classes also use drawings, so it wouldn't stand out as much, especially since one of the classes I'm taking at the moment is under the Arts department (Photography Design). Photography is a pretty big hobby of mine as well, I've been doing it for a while...
