posting a message from the terminal?

I was wondering if it was possible to post a message from a terminal script (linux)?


I was planning on making a script to make it easier to post a message to the art section when i make a new drawing

It could be done with a keyboard control program like xdotool. That way you could deliver automatic keystrokes to the system.

Opening the login screen...
Logging in...
Going to the selected board...
Open up a new post...
Detecting the text box...
Paste contents in it...
Find the send message button...

It would need a little maintenance, as any tiny detail change on the forum could destroy the script's path. But that sounds like a fiddly fun project.

You should be able to use Curl. The forum works perfectly fine without Javascript.

Yep ^^ ~ Though to do it you really need to learn about how HTTP requests work; (and I'm not actually sure if the SSL certs will get in your way!) There are lots of tutorials on youtube explaining HTTP requests ~ when you understand the basics:

Open your Inspector on the network tab, then post a message ~ you'll see many requests being sent, but one of them will be a POST message sent to the server that contains the actual message you posted (you should be able to see your text in the Headers tab of the request). Copy all the info from that (the url, the main headers such a target board, target thread, message content etc, the SMFCookie for your login) ~ Then make a script that sends custom POST commands replicating what was sent by the forums code, but change the message content to whatever you want it to be ^^

You can use something like PostMan (free version is fine) to prototype your custom request to see if its working (Just please don't spam the forum with posts  )
