Someone mentioned this already but definetly Earthbound! It's one of my favorite games and an absolute milestone in the history of the RPG genre. It was ahead of its time, and considering that Undertale (which takes a lot of inspiration from Earthbound) is extremly popular, it's fair to assume people would be interested in playing it. Although a remaster would be fine, I'd like to see a full remake. Some mechanics are really clunky, and the difficulty is a bit all over the place imo.

I'm really hoping Koei Tecmo remasters or remakes the original Fatal Frame trilogy, or at the very least ports over the Wii remake of Crimson Butterfly to modern hardware. Those games are way too good and the fact that they cost between $50-150 on the aftermarket is insane

I would love a remake of Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon! That game basically changed my brain chemistry when I was a child. The first entry of the PMD series, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team Red/Blue did get a Switch remake after all, so chances of more aren't zero. Still, it's been forever since this game series had any new entries, even that one remake is a couple years old.

I got acquainted with some neighborhood kids recently who told me about the games they liked, and they had never even heard of the Mystery Dungeon games. That genuinely made me kind of sad.

Honestly I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for remakes of both the Persona 2 games!! I feel like those are the only ones in the Persona series specifically that haven't even gotten the thought and while I know I can hop on an emulator and play them but ONE CAN DREAM!! xD If they can bring back the joy that is Raidou Kuzunoha, then I'm HOPEFUL! ; u;

(Is this my shameless way of saying I miss my TatsuJun ship? Perhaps...xD)

They're really easy to emulate! PCSX2 even has widescreen patches for them and you can use retroachievements with the games too! There's also undubs for each game because the original PAL/NTSC releases didn't have JP audio. I'd totally recommend trying them out :innocent:

Not gonna lie, I would like to see a Lufia remaster on the modern systems. I have had played the first two games off and on as well as a cousin that played a lot of the SNES. Heck, I personally remembered when Collection of Mana was announced for the Nintendo Switch - was enough for me to get a Switch myself. I know the biggest hurdle when it comes to bringing the said games to the modern era is licensing I would think. I know at least the first one was licensed by Taito and the second by Natsume (yep, the Harvest Moon Natsume). I wouldn't mind seeing the DS "remake" getting skipped over considering how much a negative reception it has gotten.

this thread is very cool! thanks for the recommendations, everyone, and for the original question. even though they might not be remade/remastered (yet!), i'm excited to play your suggestions regardless.

as for myself... final fantasy tactics is already getting a (second) remaster... it might feel a bit greedy to have a second, but the game was previously only available on the playstation 1 or playstation portable. that sucked, as it's one of my favourite games of all time and i think forever relevant. it has an incredibly deep modding community over on ffhacktics, too! i'm really excited for the world to see tactics again. :seal:

now that that's happening, i think i would have to say baroque. it's a roguelike dungeon crawler with a fascinating post-apocalyptic, biblical-themed world. the original game was released on the sega saturn and playstation 1; it got a remake for playstation 2 and wii, and this version was released also on iOS later.

but unfortunately, the original version of the game has not been ported forward at all besides in japan, and the 3rd-person remake has not advanced beyond ps2/wii and iOS!

this game can be emulated, of course. but copies of the ps2 game go for over 100USD at best secondhand, and probably even more expensive on other platforms. that's not quite manageable for most people who aren't avid fans and collectors! it also means you need a system to emulate it with. i think it's a fantastic and beautiful game, deeply haunting and with engaging mechanics, and i'd like for more people to be able to play it.

there's actually a fansite on neocities for the game, if people are interested!  :dog:

edit: i completely forgot about xenogears! it's had so much influence that people don't know about in the jrpg scene. but i haven't played it much myself, so i can't comment on what it's like... i just know it deserves to be free of its platform confines!!

It would be an incredibly bittersweet affair if it did happen, as the franchise is pretty much dead and (I think) all the original writers have since been laid off, but I feel Dragon Age: Origins really deserves a remaster.

I'm very charmed by the relatively dated graphics and (sometimes questionable) design, so I wouldn't really want a complete visual do-over, but a bit of sprucing up and quality-of-life changes would be nice. It's a fantastic game that's really inaccessible as things stand - just getting it to run on a modern computer feels like trying to cajole a frightened horse. Even if you do get it running, without a large address-aware patch (that you have to get from either NexusMods or a forum) you'll eventually hit a memory leak that makes it crash every two seconds. Which is such a shame! I've never found anything that quite scratches the same itch, and it's such an important bit of video game history (both as a genre-defining RPG and as one of the first triple-A games to include gay romances).

Form what I seen of Baroque's monster desings are super intersting. No idea how much the wii version goes for now of these days.
