really, what will happen when a platform finally "goes"?

i wonder, what would a "post-internet" look like?
also been wondering what happens when the big people in charge, in power of most scientific stuff (as in bio-engineering stuff etc) are replaced with more open-minded people?
they're the biggest reasons why so much bio-engineering isn't really happening, at least the absolute backbone reason as to why it's not happening.
fully furry people, people with animal ears/tail, people with say vampire fangs, people with horns etc - those would be interesting, but it seems the people in charge don't care. and it goes the same with trans things too - in theory, the development of cancer cures could open up a massive step up from HRT, in which it could just be a month or two, and a few jabs.
what if height reduction surgery was a thing? we already have surgery to make people taller, but then height reduction surgery almost isn't a thing? especially within the torso area, not just the legs/arms.

well, what would the world look like in the future?
what would it be like if social media goes? would social media ever go?

what happens when more progressive, open-minded people are in charge of various things? i wonder...
it'd be interesting to know if lots of things were different. if lots of things were more progressive.
it's interesting to think how - what if these were to happen? the future to be more progressive, more accepting? the internet's already got many resources, the biggest problem behind the surgical/bio stuff is that the people in charge are ancient, not ever willing to learn. is it?

It's honestly a good question to ask. I think more on this as I watch Meta and their beacons become more and more ravaged by bots and scammers over actual users. I do want to start getting people away but because I feel like a small whisper in a loud world, I get drowned out. It's really hard considering a lot of it is because more people use it, so I should too...

I don't give a lot of people in my family my phone number for a good reason and for the most part, neither my FB contact. It just seems like we're so used to being connected in one spot it hurts when the account gets banned. Unfortunately that is what seems to be happening lately as I noticed over on the subreddit for FB. Even now, I have been convinced if it wasn't for Messenger I would've trashed my account with a bit of a parting text for old Zucc. I still don't and from what I've heard, it's worse to try and self delete your account rather than getting it banned.

I had recently tried getting into Matrix and XMMS as well as looking into IRC but the latter is hard to find a good starting place. The former while successful left me drained from figuring it out and getting it set up on my phone. Desktop app I have supports XMMS but not Matrix so I would have to end up getting another app that would be a Swiss app for me.

I like the idea of reversing back to the older days of just using phones and old school chat, but I can't understand it myself to really reel in others with confidence since I would be the go-to techie if they needed help with something.

yea definitely Meta-based platforms are like they're bleeding users. same with Reddit since the API protests and Twitter.
the Fediverse isn't much better mostly since it's the same kinda hostility just with a different backbone, i guess. but corporate platforms definitely do seem to be bleeding users - AI bots and all that are seemingly taking over Facebook and others too.

same though, i feel as if i'm just a small whisper in a loud world - it's like you need to be the 'majority' to have a voice of any sort. though i think, maybe it's better to tell them face-to-face or in some other way, if possible? maybe that'll help better than posting about it on the platform itself or something?

YouTube - i still wish for a good alternative outside of BitView and PeerTube. especially if there's a platform more akin to Flipnote and flash videos were, but instead of wondering will it ever happen, maybe wonder when will it happen?

i would love to see more rural areas being more progressive, but in my country especially they're just conservatives who get super protective over it. but i think the more progressive people move in, the more the possibility for change is!

Coming from one that uses the Fediverse almost daily, I can agree with that most of the time. Although it helps being part of an instance that is more strict on such activity. I only use Reddit to replace the amount of scrolling FB offered but I still think it's going to be a bittersweet minute when the account ban strikes mine... Between the horror stories of the lack of help from Meta and just the idea of not being able to contact the small handful of liked teachs from high school, it's going to be a "need to touch grass" kinda moment.

What's even worse is that high school was like that for me as well. But I still have that drive to try and get people curious, and just need that help taking the first step. Definitely the face to face contact helps tremendously, but that requires the connection being made. Oh well, one step at a time. I had considered doing something along those lines of being a VTuber but not in the environment Youtube itself is in! I remember trying an app like what was described but only felt overwhelming and recent reviews convinced me to not give it another try... Aside from the handful of clips from some shows to scratch the itch and news updates from local station, meh. Not a big fan of ads during a livestream but that's well addressed when using either the news station's app on the tv or the mobile phone because ad blocker. Sorry Google.

Nonetheless, I would like to see the return of such places that allow sharing doodles and Flipnote creations. Might be the thing to get me to have the 3DS looked at so the D-Pad isn't as fussy. One site I could think of at the moment that's similar is Pawprinting but its more of a drawing game with others than a video posting site. I still felt like it was relevant to this in some regard.

Even in a suburban area, I'm kind of in that same boat. Most of the other folks in the state (let alone in my local area) tend to be conservative and because we're in part of the good ol' bible belt, yeesh! Gotta love the states sometimes. At this point, some are resilient to changing minds quickly but I don't doubt that they still could change ways even after the uncertainty going on in the world.

It really pisses me off how it feel's like we haven't even gotten anywhere with trying to get people away from social media apart from Bluesky. It's impossible to get people to start going away from Youtube because it's the culmination of 30 years of multimedia and home video development boiled down into one app. It literally replaced cable TV in many ways and it has such a massive influence that I don't think people even realize. The adpocalypse and youtube making things as monetizable as possible kinda created a ripple effect I think. People dont have any other source of videos and media other than Youtube, and since Youtube is all about making cash, the media is all low quality, so people are generally always unhappy on the site but they can't move away from it because there's nothing else anywhere else. I kinda want this whole social media thing to be over with already. We've been going on about how terrible it is for the last decade or so, so where's the part when we can actually get rid of it? I double dog dare anyone who reads this to do some shit to actually fix this mess we made of the internet.

I was thinking about this recently as well. With the direction things are going today, I feel like a further evolution of chat rooms might be what happens after social media. Anecdotally, my friends and I have leaned more into chat room-style spaces in recent years. I know few people who actively use Facebook or Instagram, but most of them use Discord, Messenger, or Snapchat. More recently, I see people preferring VRChat and MMOs like FFIV for chat rooms.


Modern social media is the (unfortunate) evolution away from old message boards and forums. Places like Discord and Reddit consolidated communities onto one platform and made them more accessible. It's hard for me to imagine such things becoming more accessible then they already are. And with a majority of people born in recent times being an internet native, I don't know that the technical accessibility of these platforms is a goal anymore.
