I've been looking online for anyone else that remembers MatMice. It was similar to NeoCities, but aimed at kids. Existed in like...early 2000s. Eventually it became a social media platform that failed and tanked the whole ship.
Somethings I specifically remember about it:
-You couldn't have multiple pages per account, if you wanted to give your site multiple pages, you basically had to make a new account and link to it from your main site.
-Was made by some girls in Australia. I live in the US so I wonder if finding it was a fluke and if it was really only popular overseas?
-Pugly was a site that I remember being very popular (I actually found it on the internet archive, thank god, but most of it's graphics are lost.)
-It was sponsored by Scholastic at some point
-Ran exclusively HTML tho I think you could have style sheets in there as well, but I can't remember if you could link to them.
The major reason I love Neocities is it reminds me a lot of Mat Mice. I remember being in 2nd grade and being both obsessed with the Titanic and the Warriors book series. It was a popular thing at the time on MatMice to make warrior clans so of course I based mine around the Titanic...kinda messed up when I think about it now tbh.
I have some more vague memories I remember, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any?
