I was homeschooled/unschooled growing up, with pretty much no supervision- so I've been online since I was 6, and now I'm almost 30 and never really spent any time offline. I'm kinda sad about the fact that I'll be leaving the net soon- I'm getting my CDL, and becoming a long-distance trucker. I'm excited for the career, but so much of who I am is enmeshed with internet culture, especially indie net kinda stuff. I'll' miss it all a lot, and I'm feeling really sad.

There won't be a lot of opportunities to check in on the forums, sites etc that I like, and I won't have time for neocities anymore either. :( I'm hoping to make enough in short bursts to have time off from working in between, and I'll get my fill then.

It's different though, you know what I mean? It doesn't feel like I'm losing access to my internet addiction (which I don't have so much these days). Just like, I'm leaving communities and people behind for months at a time. Time to really buckle down and grow up, I guess. It just feels like leaving friends behind, even the people I interact with once a month or less.

Life can be unfair sometimes, and I think that's ok, it's all about how you deal with those situations and I think getting a good job like that is a good thing for you and I understand how it could be hard to leave this all behind I'm not nearly as old as you so I don't really have the experience of the internet that you do I cant imagine how tough of a decision this is but it's clearly a very important desicon to make mabey if your lucky you'll retire early and you'll have lots of time to reconect with the indie web you never know

I've been having a hard time with adult decisions myself today I had to turn in my 2 week notice to my job I was working way to hard and they just never gave me a decent raise and they thought that I may have been faking some health issues and that really bummed me out to come to terms with that I worked at where I worked for a whole year and I didn't want to leave all my co-workers behind but it was a decision I had to make I wasted a year of my life prioritizing work over my hobbies and schooling and that got me nowhere but I doubt that will happen with you I think you have a very clear path to take and I think you are going to enjoy it just as much as you are going to miss the indie web

I hope trucking goes well for you  :cheesy:

It's the nature of the Internet and life, isn't it? People come and go. Sometimes you're lucky they will reappear in your life, but often... not so much.

But at least, you get the memories of significant moments. Sometimes, especially on the Internet, they are second-hand, but that doesn't mean they're any less valuable  :dog:

I think most of the Internet's population is made of lonely people. Yes, everybody is disconnected from other people and touch-starved out there; but the Internet is for the marginalized, the isolated, those who never truly found their place or their people in real life. So we built one of our own.

But of course, real life is the world we come from, the one we must always come back to. And it has very chaotic, confusing, sometimes harsh rules. You can't truly live how you'd like to, and even if you could it would probably not be very good for you.

I'm still trying to build and find my place, my people, in both the virtual and real worlds. I hope trucking is the way for you. If you can come back, please tell us of your experiences, if you want to, of course. Experiences are always valuable, even if they're second-hand.

Please, take care of yourself. I heard trucking can be a huge toll on your body and mental health.
