Just a fun question to everyone, do you wear corrective glasses?
If yes, do you like wearing them? Maybe there's something that annoys you in them?

I have a quite big vision defect (around minus five) and I need to wear them all the time if I want to see anything that isn't very close to my face. They often annoy me in different situations like because of them I can't wear any cheap sunglasses without correction, but I can't put eye contacts to my eyes, I tried so many times and I'm too scared of touching my eyeballs.

Let's see how many glasses users we have here (or how many we don't). :unite:

I'm supposed to, but I don't. I'm ever so slightly far-sighted, and I own a pair of glasses that are supposed to correct it. But I don't really need them for my work, so I don't really care. I hate carrying things around when I go to places, and I also hate wearing hard things like sunglasses, jewelry etc. So no. But I really should.

yupp! and it is a fun question! i've had glasses since i was about 4 or 5 as poor sight runs on both sides of the family. i believe the frames from back then are rattling around in my attic still. they're like fun little knick knacks to keep around and remind me of different periods of my life! my current frames cant stay still on my face as the last set got a bit too comfortable on my face. as for lens correction, i forgot to ask at the doctor  :ohdear: but its enough that my boss thought i was sick with how much i was squinting!

I legit don't know how there are some people with worse vision than me don't wear glasses?

glasses can be pretty uncomfortable, contact lenses suck to put in and surgery can be expensive. some people just put up with it (somehow) props to them!

my left and right lenses are +1.50 and +0.50 respectively! my right eye has always had to try compensating for my left eye which is baaaaad!!

but uh, i got them a couple years ago now and was supposed to go in for a check up by now, so maybe that'll change when i get around to doing that!

i've had glasses for a lot of my life, i'm very thankful i've never minded how glasses look on me since i know that some people are embarrassed by them!
i've never really had the desire to get contact lenses either.. since i KNOW i would forget about them and from the couple of times i've tried colored contacts for costume reasons i also know i would not feel like using them lol

i do end up going out without glasses on sometimes but it's usually when i'm going to a standing concert and don't want them to get trampled.. i have seen my fair share of other peoples glasses on the floor and i would hate if those were either of mine!  :omg:

My eyes are terrible! I've worn glasses for as long as I can remember, and contacts off and on (currently "on"). I don't know my prescription but it's really bad, like I can't read the big "E" on the chart, I have astigmatism in both eyes, and because of a birth defect that affected half my face I am very left-eye dominant.

When I wore glasses I had the most expensive options available, and insurance covered almost all of those options. Like, aspheric lenses, ant-glare, special thin material, etc. Still they were so thick I could only wear certain frames due to distortion and lens thickness. Even when I did have a good pair, the distortion was so bad I felt like my vision was still not truly "corrected" with glasses. Which is a shame because I actually like how I look in glasses  :ozwomp:

Soft contact lenses cannot go up to my prescription, and my vision is so bad I have had two different optometrists tell me laser is not an option, because the risks are not worth the benefit, which wouldn't even be 20/20 vision. And normal gas-permeable hard contact lenses are super uncomfortable to me.

Sooo currently I'm rocking a pair of scleral hard contact lenses that my optometrist and I worked on for three months to fit correctly  :unite:  They sit on the white part of your eye and sort of vault over your cornea. You fill the lenses with sterile saline like a cup when putting them on, so its just filled with saline between the cornea and the contact lens, which is way more comfortable than it sounds. It's the best vision I've ever had! Super annoying to fit (we were making adjustments of like tens of microns and it takes a week or two to get a new pair to test out each time) but it's the best I can ever realistically hope for in terms of vision quality.

I too wear glasses. I can function without them, but things get annoying quickly, so I usually keep them on. I sometimes make an exception if it is raining, or some other water-related thing, like doing dishes at work.

I usually go with a cheap pair of frames, but I make sure that the lenses are durable. That combination means that I don't have to worry about scratches, drops, or the like. (Once, I tripped and faceplanted three times in a single fall. The worst that happened was that a lens popped out, so I just put it right back in.) Sometimes that parts that goes on my ears get loose, but a quick turn of the screwdriver fixes it.

I have never worn contacts, and probably never will. Due to my sensory issues, there is a high chance of me having a panic attack about having something in my eye. Glasses are easier to clean, put on, and take off.

I own glasses, they cost a lot of money, and every few years I get them replaced, then I put them back in their box and wear them once or twice a year :drat:

Getting them was a requirement when I did a drivers test, but after that I never got around to getting a full license; they can be useful for going to the cinima or if I'm planning to look at an impressive view (they allow far away things to be in extra HD focus) - however personally I prefer things being a bit blurry.

Not toooo blurry of course, and occasionally it is inconvenient when I cant read a sign at an airport, but in general I find there's an artistic quality to the world being somewhat smudged, it lets me fill in the blanks and see things in more vague painterly ways

I've had glasses since I was 2 years old due to accommodative esotropia (a lazy eye)! So at this point they basically are just a part of my body and I wear them all the time. I actually feel like I can see pretty well without them even though I am also a bit nearsighted, but I'm definitely working the muscles in my eyes to focus if I don't wear them. I also unfortunately have a lot of issues because of the way my face is with making sure they fit correctly and don't hurt me

i'm somehow the only person in my family who doesn't need glasses, despite my eye hygeine being less than stellar (when i was young, my mother would tell me her eyes got bad because she'd read books past her bedtime... i still stayed up reading books past my bedtime anyway  :ok:).
feels like a matter of time, though. i recently bought blue eye glasses because of how much eye strain my work involves (day job and freelance are both very much "stare at the screen" gigs lol). they're helping and will hopefully stave off the inevitable for at least a bit longer...

Yes, I have become a so-called "megane-danshi" (1) since grade school by necessity. It has been so long that it had become a part of how I look (and see myself), to the point that whenever I see my face without glasses nowadays, it just looked... wrong. Not any style of frame would do though, I have a knack of choosing a "mature-looking" frame... which often ended up being a very pricey one in most of the optometrist shops I have ever visited for some inexplicable reason.

And no, I never have any desire to wear contact lens; LASIK (or LASEK, PRK, or other kinds of laser surgery) maybe if I could afford it, but never contact lens. However, if I had ever gotten such surgery done, I'd probably still wear non-correcting glasses...

Yes, this might surprise some of you: there are people which a pair of glasses (of appropriate style) improves their appearances-- and I'm one of them; this is also why non-corrective "fashion glasses" exist. Conversely, there are also people which their subconscious beauty standard have spectacles as one of the factors (2)(3); and I happened to be in that demographics too.

Though, I admit that it is annoying whenever I have to get through the rain (4), and whenever I swim; but that's just a fact of life.

(1) Roundabout to-Japanese-and-back animespeak way to say "bespectacled dude".
(2) "Glasses fetish", if you must.
(3) I think there is even an anime written around this trait too: Meganebu! by Studio Deen, from 2013.
(4) Or Thai Songkran festival.
