:cheerR: Heya hey! Putting out an all-call for weird website widgets that still work!
(Say that five times fast-)

A Widget is a small, often HTML-based toy, gadget, or gizmo one can insert into their page.

They range from useful, like clocks, to wacky, like a countdown to specifically Halloween.

My links page has many widgets!

I enjoy a good bit of oldnet sillies, so any links to WORKING ones are appreciated!

The website/creator abowman has some cute virtual pet widgets, including some more recent ones like the extremely detailed hammyhome, as well as some from the late 2000s/early 2010s that you may recognize (I seem to remember the fish pond widget being somewhat popular?) and most of them can be embedded on your website to your heart's content. I like how they offer a lot of customization and interactivity and I love messing around with hammyhome in particular because I really love the cage-building aspects and just watching my hamsters go about their day :)

I always feel a bit icky about embedding other people's HTML via a frame or whatnot on my page. If they are malicious people themselves or get their website compromised by cyber attackers, everyone who uses that widget or frame will suddenly blast malicious content to their visitors.

I recommend checking out Navlink Ads, it allows ads on your site for other pages on Neocities. (Not to track tho) i have it on my site and basically it just shows a small banner of a site and it switches every 30 minutes :mark: If you do want to get it you can check out https://dimden.dev/navlinkads/

With all due respect, you already have a ton of widgets on your site. I'm all for fun stuff in websites but sometimes it's a bit of a pain to navigate with all the extra stuff you added.

I've heard about that, yeah. Perhaps I'll put these somewhere in my blogs? :O

I did revamp the whole website a while back, putting these gadgets somewhere else.

If you look in the preferences (here https://retrojcities.neocities.org/settings), you can disable things like oneko, if that's getting in your way.

Yes, it also remembers your configurations via cookies.

king possum's internet radio! https://kingposs.com/radio
& i'm sure there's other embeddable internet radios out there...

you could get an increment button. doesn't do anything except count how many times it's clicked, but i think that's pretty fun.

i've been on the lookout for wonky fun widgets so i'll be snooping this thread for sure!

I also really recommend SCM Music Player! It fits nice and snug on the top bar and allows you to play mp3 and also supports online radio stations! I have it on my site and its one of the best widgets i have embeded to my site! Its perfect if you want some music in a convenient space on your site!  :seal:

Yes, it also remembers your configurations via cookies.

... Why cookies? Wouldn't it make more sense to use local storage?

Cookies track users and violate privacy, which is why it's literally legally mandated that you disclose you use them.

Cookies themselves aren't bad, third-party cookies are.

using local storage, that's an overkill, don't you think?

If you don't use cookies to track users, I'm pretty sure they don't inherently violate user privacy

In this case, i only use them to store user options, and thats literally it.

They don't share with other third-parties, it isnt used for anything else but storing user preferences.
