I was thinking today that is so hard to recognize a good thing until its gone; even when you are so sure that you will notice when things have gotten better, somehow when they are better it seems inevitable, like how could anything be different to how it is!

Its too easy to take for granted the people and the things around you, or the work you have done to get where you are ~ I do this far too often :ohdear:

Particularly in the web revival scene (and on MelonLand), we have all been working for a few years now and so many people have built so many cool things ~ its nice to sit back and admire it all, but I also want to remember that it took work to get here, and it will continue to be work if its going to keep improving ~ there is lots to be done!

What are your tips for recognizing the work and progress you've made in your projects?

It's hard to see improvement on a daily basis. It feels like you're stuck, you're not moving  at all.

I think the best thing you can do is simply look back when you started. It doesn't matter how much you've improved, you're ALWAYS BETTER than when you started. Taking a step back not only reafirms your improvement, but also helps to understand what other things you need to get better, and set new goals in order to achieve that, whatever you're learning/doing.

I think often where I come from. I will never forget my utter terror when I realized that I had to learn HTML to make my own website and I was 100% sure that I needed to do some super giga advanced maths and logical course to understand any single bit of code. For me it was impossible, scary and I would give up quickly.

inally it has been one of the best things I've ever done in my life and I cannot thank my past self enough for risking a "maybe, maybe we can do this. We should try at least."

And I do believe that it will be a forever learning trip for me because I don't take anything for granted. I rely a lot on "die and retry" methods. It has been quite the journey since I started and seeing people that are scared about HTML/CSS like I was, I realize that it's awesome and that I can still do cool things with patience and dedication.

Working myself through Heideggers "Time and Being" at this time. I disagree with him in most points, but there are some things he wrote that are noteworthy, sometimes even poetic. One of these thoughts is that we take the things for granted and are used to them being there (and available to us) to a degree that hinders us to perceive the world itself, as we fall into everyday routines - and only if we notice that something that was always available to be used, we are thrown against the world and thus see it.

I'm myself my biggest fan - so this ain't much of a problem to me. But now that I think about it, I believe that my routine of reviewing earlier versions, asking for feedback, and - especially - spending a lot of time with my own work (one of the biggest parts, especially when programming, is playing my own games and slowly improving them step by step - and I have similar tendencies with my music :D) might help in this regard.
