Hello I wanted to put together this thread for anyone curious about moderation and wanting to ask moderation related questions!

Please note this is not a place to report specific issues or report posts, it's more for general questions! If you need to report an issue find out how here!

Moderation facts:

• There are usually 3-4 voluntary moderators on staff at any one time - there is a list of mods on the wiki!
• Moderators have a special board for discussing issues, but it's strictly business!
• Posts are never deleted on MelonLand, they are only ever moved to an unlisted board and can be recovered.
• All moderators help with approving new member accounts - we approve on average 60% of accounts.
• Only around 9 people have ever been banned from MelonLand.
• When accounts are banned, the account is not deleted but you will see a red "This account is banned" message on its profile.
• Some accounts are temporarily banned and can be appealed or recovered in the future.
• "Memory" posts are not made by banned accounts, they are accounts that were deleted by their owner.
• Moderators do not ever delete member accounts.
• When posts are reported, moderators get an alert and have a group discussion about the report.
• Generally moderation actions only happen after two or three mods have agreed on an action!
• Moderators are invited, usually based on their input and activity on forum threads, but that does not mean you cant offer to be a mod

The majority of rejections comes from an lack of telling information. If there is no website, no links to any profiles, and the introduction text basically says "I would love to join a forum, so I hope you take me. This field requires a minimum length, so I will just repeat points till I hit it.........", chances for approval are rather low.
Other reasons are extremely incoherent texts, obvious spam bots, or people who show problematic behavior (like overly aggressive introduction texts or racist/sexist/... things on their websites or profiles, and so on). But this is a very tiny minority.

I've never heard of this before, however we do have two stages of image processing for images linked on the forum and they might make use of extra image data.

• The first time an image loads its saved to a server-side archive to prevent image-rot
• Every time after, when an image is loaded its relayed from the archive though an image cache that compresses it and makes it load faster for people viewing the forum!

That's interesting. I still don't really understand what HTML5 image data is, but i know that not letting sites have it sometimes breaks the favicon in my browser. That and a popup a day or two before i asked are how i noticed. The only change i made around then is uploading a picture for my avatar. It could be that triggered something, or something changed independently behind the scenes.

I guess it doesn't much matter, i'm just curious.
