this thread is very cool! thanks for the recommendations, everyone, and for the original question. even though they might not be remade/remastered (yet!), i'm excited to play your suggestions regardless.
as for myself... final fantasy tactics is already getting a (second) remaster... it might feel a bit greedy to have a second, but the game was previously only available on the playstation 1 or playstation portable. that sucked, as it's one of my favourite games of all time and i think forever relevant. it has an incredibly deep modding community over on
ffhacktics, too! i'm really excited for the world to see tactics again.
now that that's happening, i think i would have to say baroque. it's a roguelike dungeon crawler with a fascinating post-apocalyptic, biblical-themed world. the original game was released on the sega saturn and playstation 1; it got a remake for playstation 2 and wii, and this version was released also on iOS later.
but unfortunately, the original version of the game has not been ported forward at all besides in japan, and the 3rd-person remake has not advanced beyond ps2/wii and iOS!
this game can be emulated, of course. but copies of the ps2 game go for over 100USD at best secondhand, and probably even more expensive on other platforms. that's not quite manageable for most people who aren't avid fans and collectors! it also means you need a system to emulate it with. i think it's a fantastic and beautiful game, deeply haunting and with engaging mechanics, and i'd like for more people to be able to play it.
there's actually a
fansite on neocities for the game, if people are interested!
edit: i completely forgot about xenogears! it's had so much influence that people don't know about in the jrpg scene. but i haven't played it much myself, so i can't comment on what it's like... i just know it deserves to be free of its platform confines!!
