Here are 4 of my graphic design pieces I made through the years.

The 1st one is a boot screen for a mockup dark aero OS.

The 2nd design is a Frutiger Aero piece which was inspired by my life transition from high school to college: my biggest life transition so far.

The 3rd design was an improved version of an infographic found on reddit.

The last one is more skeuomorphic and is inspired by 1980s retro-futuristic gadgets.

Full quality images can be found in my website.

Impressive gallery! The dark aero desktop mockup is so intricately realized. The art nouveau-themed design is surprisingly delicious, and I'm strangely drawn to the bold red Azumanga wallpaper :mark:

I think I only caught the tail-end of the Frutiger Aero era growing up, though a lot of libre software (GIMP probably) retained the aesthetic into the mid 2010s (when I finally entered online society), so I don't experience much nostalgia.

(If I may ask) What draws you to the aesthetic, or what visual itch are you trying to scratch? Always curious about this one ^^

I love the gloss and elegance that comes with Frutiger Aero. In fact, I grew up with Windows Vista when I was very young and was (fun fact) born on the exact day Vista was released. Art nouveau also shares the elegance aspect but also the nature/floral aspect.

No way, that really is a fun fact :omg: Yeah, I can see it: there's an elegance to both Frutiger Aero and Art Nouveau—also an ornateness, especially in the latter. I think some of the patterning of Art Nouveau was influenced by Japanese printmaking, specifically ukiyo-e. Elegant but more minimalist, flat and not glossy, but also frequently featuring floral designs. I was trying to recall if there were other aesthetics characterized by elegance, but the ones I considered tended to stray more into minimalism (Art Deco?)...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts behind your design work!

Wow, just discovered your series of skeuomorphic app icons—very sleek! The Google one is cheeky :ha:

I remember being into Art Deco from 2020-2022ish, usually browsing Reddit. A site I recommend for Art Nouveau is https://art.nouveau.world/

I like your work, it looks good. I think the Y2K style actually came around with stuff like VRML, and music videos like Messiah's Thunderdome.
