Recommendations for my project?

Hai!

I'm starting an internet database where users can upload images, videos and text files called "Atomix Portal". Is pretty barebones and in here I'm gonna ask for some recommendations and suggestions for my site, it's a pretty big project so I'll need some help

The first thing i notice is that blue links on a green background are hard to read. Changelog suggests that's just a seasonal theme, but it might be worth changing in future years. Maybe links could be red or silver instead.

I also don't get what this is supposed to be. A database, sure, but who and what is it for? This seems like the sort of thing that most people will only find out about if they're already into the small web, at which point i don't see why they wouldn't rather just make their own site to host stuff. Is it meant to be a collection of general works? I don't yet understand.

tbh for me it looks readable, althought i still changed it. As for the seasonal theme, it's pretty barebones and it's only in the index.html page, in the futur ill try to make it better!

I second @IndigoGolem 's observation. There should be some kind of theme or people will have no incentive to send you their work.

Having said that, the X-mas theme is very cute. ;)

To be honest all I can think of is fun formatting things, so here's a list for you to use if you'd like

• A favicon (the little picture next to the tab name)
  here's a link to help you out with it :D :  Favicon tutorial!
• Add in some sort of font
• Add some images in the main page to show what kind of theme you're looking for
• Add a color scheme or just more colors to tie the page together

Honestly I kind of like it being general--I love stumbling across treasure troves like this, since they always seem to develop their own culture and idiosyncrasies. More often than not, they start out broad, but then get steered towards one direction as users grow and develop their interests.

That said, here are a few ideas that might help:
* Instead of giving the site an overall theme, have a "theme of the month" that highlights different things you'd like the site to collect
* This may be a can of worms, but you could either allow comments on items (hard), or let people vote on them somehow (also hard, but involves less moderation).
* Once you've got a good collection built up, feature an item each week that people can go look at
