I don't send emails to people, but that's because I'm shy. I'm someone that you kind of have to poke with a stick first, because otherwise I'm not good at reaching out on my own.

I miss causal emailing so much, it was my main form of communication with friends before everyone jumped on messenger. :tnt:

I could write longer messages and send bigger files and I liked waiting for a reply, it was usually slower than just texting SMS or for example messenger, WhatsApp but it was the whole charm.

i was casually emailing people last year
however i haven't done it in a while because my 2 penpals have been busy & i don't know what to say to someone else
i've mostly been talking to people over instant messengers but more so decentralized protocols (kinda like email), including older ones like irc and xmpp
i'd be kinda lying if i said i didn't miss emailing people tho

I really like e-mail, I feel it is more suited to my personality. People used to e-mail me back when I had a blog but since I stopped using social media, people don't really reach out to me anymore (sometimes people e-mail me about it but quickly get bored lol). In theory I could be more proactive and look for people to contact myself but I have yet to meet anybody new similar enough to me to be worth reaching out to yet.  :dog:

Either way, it would be nice if e-mail penpalling came back in vogue. Writing 'letters' to each other is just a different experience from real time/instant messaging, in my opinion. I like the expectation of writing longer messages and not necessitating a quick response before the topic goes 'stale'.  :unite:

Most of my email conversations are requests / people wanting to join my webring, I sometimes email webmasters if there's no guestbook available and I want to tell them something (like cool website) or ask something specific.

But this topic inspired me to enjoy the process of emailing people more.
Feel free to shoot me an email to say hi btw!

A few of my friends and I have moved to e-mail here and there for a while, but it hasn't really stuck. It's a shame because it's probably my favorite form of communication; checking my inbox at the end of the day and seeing all the stuff I missed is so fun! Plus it makes me feel less weird for writing so much every time I send a message.

I would be more than happy to become penpals with people, it seems like a good way to keep up without having to check 24/7. Not receiving a reply on an e-mail within a day feels less catastrophic than not being replied to on discord, y'know?

OK so I was actually wondering about this, DO people do this?

Cuz yk, I think itd be fun. Like yk, I get that a lot of people have a guestbook, but there have been things I've wanted to tell website creators in a more casual yet not 100% public way (for example, wanted to tell a neocities neighbor that I love the music on their site). But I'm just a socially awkward person (here and irl) so i never really do it.

HOWEVER, I WOULD if its normal for other people to do it and wouldnt come off as weird or creepy, im just not sure what the consensus is :ohdear:

I figure if they have their email public, then it's free game to write them one. And from this thread, you can see that at least a couple people do  it, or would be open to it  :seal:

If they think it's weird or creepy, then they won't reply and you'll never have to talk to them again

To help with anxiety, I try to focus on the idea of being the change you want to see!

I use email pretty regularly. I've got some replies to catch up on, but I have an email specifically for social use and always include it in ways to chat with me.

I feel like these days, people tend to see email as a Serious or Businesslike form of communication, though it really doesn't have to be. Besides chatty emails, the only other thing in my inbox are last year's Dracula Daily emails xD
I literally open my email to read every now and then, it's fun :cheerR:

Literally if anyone ever wants to just slid into my inbox, go for it xD

Going against the consensus here and saying I don't like emails at all. I have a mental block that makes me scared of even checking my inbox. Worst thing is I have to use it at work all the time :( I do have that problem with chats too and feel a lot of shame for it.
