I think the issue I have with AI art is that most people who make it are too focused on creating something that already exists... I mean, the pictures might look nicely done, sure, but I've seen thousands of anime girls before. At the end of the day what makes a generic drawing of an anime girl neat is the process behind it. Erase the process, and it's rather bland.
There are ways to use AI creatively though, I've certainly seen a few creative types use AI in interesting ways (even without editing them further). It kind of takes a bit of outside-of-the-box thinking though, which requires some practice.
At the end of the day, AI is just a tool that artists can use... It's just a divisive topic because so many non-artistic people consider it a proper replacement for art itself.
