A coding habit I have is that I always mess up the capitalization.

I'm used to having to do English perfectly so it's kinda hard not to capitalize names and the first letter of a sentence.

* Playing something to accompany me while coding, reading, or writing before realizing that it's making it too hard to focus on what I'm doing, changing it to the same jazz album I play when I just want background music, getting annoyed because of how it doesn't fit my mood in the moment with how upbeat it is, stopping it, thinking for a few moments, and then giving up doing anything online entirely for a few hours.

Lmao I relate to switching music due to the vibe being too upbeat or doesn't match the mood. I also enjoy playing music while coding, sometimes I will struggle to choose a video/music to listen to, and ending up spending more time searching than doing the code...

Not just coding, but I get obsessive and absolutely single-minded about almost everything I do and get "in the zone." That sometimes leads to not sleeping properly and forgetting to eat. Not so much now, but it still happens now and then.

It drives my wife nuts. She doesn't understand it, but mostly tolerates it.

"You haven't listened to a word I've said"
"What?"

Yea whenever I get in the zone, it is difficult to get me to take a break, I hate the feeling of being pulled out of my focus mode, it feels like I wouldn't perform as well if I continue it the next day.

  • I work on my website code in VSCode and I use deploy to Neocities from Github. Whenever I update my site, I always forget to added the change to the update logs, so in my deploy history, it will be like "Added xxx page" then later "Updated the update log".
  • After adding new stuff in my website, I often check if the page looks alright on mobile. If it looks off the slightest, I feel extremely bothered and will fix it as soon as possible.
  • I don't keep a lot of tabs on my laptop, however, I don't shut down my laptop very much, which might be a bad habit since it sometimes heats up in my bag.
  • I enjoy consistency, if I change a format in a page (e.g. a list), I will go ahead and change the format in all the other pages. As you can imagine, it can take quite a while

i feel like sometimes i switch between using Kate and using the in-built Nekoweb editor. :ha:

and most of the time i don't have a styles.css file for some HTML pages, especially if they're not my main page -- often their styling is within their own header (anyone else think it's more "portable" that way lool)
also yea for some reason there aren't any properly sectioned parts of my site like 'header' and things. it's just a bunch of boxes (divs) placed in positions i want, and then i just use things like <h1> etc. idk it's just easier (or am i forgetting?)

also half the time my site is small in file size but then the few audio files rocket it up to like 30MB ughh -- usually it's like 2ish megabytes max but the audio files rocketed it up. so maybe that's a thing - plus there's not a good way to store them online for me so the only option is having them hosted on my nekoweb site for anywhere else online.

Specifically with like procedural languages, I always try to modulerize stuff too much. Like, I will break out a specific part of the code to a function, even if its only called twice, because I always worry that I'll forget and only change one instance of it and break everything.

Also, early returns are apparently not super common and I wish it was used more?? (ie instead of checking for a condition and running the rest of the function, checking if the condition is invalid and returning if not). Nesting always bothers me, so I really like early return stuff.

- I always have at least 2 tabs open, so if I accidentally press close, Firefox gives me an "are you sure?" box
- I end up having a bunch of tabs open when I'm coding, usually of just different page editors
- I have Discord for desktop, but for some reason I use the browser version more for some reason. Force of habit I guess
- I make folders for EVERYTHING. Folders within folders within folders within folders etc etc. That goes for site files, bookmarks, local files, everything that can get sorted WILL. I love going through them to clear up space or sort things even further
- I manually clear my cache instead of doing the key shortcut to reload because I keep forgetting what it is. It's very annoying when I'm doing a lot of CSS
- First thing I do when I'm online is check my guestbooks and email
- This is a bit messy and chaotic, but I use both separate CSS files and inline CSS...
- I sketch out site layouts by hand before coding them in
