What are your favourite examples of musicians stepping outside of their comfort zone? Switching up genres, topics, odd collaborations, different production, etc.

The example that made me think of this was Lil Uzi's new album, specifically the song Werewolf as it has a punk/metal sound as opposed to their regular rap sound/style

Some musicians really try different genres, doing well.

Leevi and the Leavings from Finnland. Their song Henry VIII really differs from their usual style. And there are plenty of experiments on their albums as well.

My favourite genre crossover is hard rocking Deep Purple with the London Symphony Orchestra. "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" was done in 1969.

From Germany, punk-rock band "Die Ärzte" included one track of a different genre on some of their albums. "Wenn es Abend wird" is one example, in bavarian folk style.

However there is another dimension about stepping out of the comfort zone. When bands become famous, they usually lose a good chunk of their common sense. They become part of the establishment and speak how the establishment wants them to speak, because people look up to them and listen to the musicians strong voice.

Risking to blow up a career, that's truely stepping out of the comfort zone.
