I recently found a website operated by a gay man in Oregon named Mark L. Irons. He had cystic fibrosis, and died in 2012 at the age of 46, but his old website is still up. He was an activist of sorts and wrote sci-fi, but his Patterns for Personal Websites is also an interesting set of pages on web design.

This is a fascinating site, and many of the tips on web design are still completely relevant twenty+ years later. Funny to think that in some ways, things have barely changed! I really like the pages talking about making information accessible and clear; I think a lot of sites would really benefit from robust linking of their own pages. More breadcrumbs!

What a cool find! I had a look around the site, and I especially liked the thoughts shared on the death page. Thank you for sharing, it was a joy to explore  :dive: !

I agree, this is a great find! These sorts of sites are my favorite to read through--not dedicated to one topic or theme, just a bunch of stuff that interested one person put online for others to share in. You get such a unique view of who the person was. I hope it stays up for many more years!

A lot of these pages are tangent to things I plan to do with my own site! The mathematics section, the puzzles, the photos from the world, and there's so much he could've done with today's Web technology.

You can wind up lost in his Bean World shrine's pages, though!
