what about arkanoid, that one is always a classic. there´s so mnay variation, that and bubble trouble style of gameplay.

Also thought about break out style games, but never played Arkanoid itself; do you have some good, legal to share clone at hand?
If you enjoy this type of game, check out Locust USA; has no scoring system iirc, so this doesn't work for a tournament.
