I love the 3DS, I've been going back to it the past year or two just replaying a lot of the games I missed out on. I love my Switch and all but 3DS was the last console that had a lot of personality (and I love StreetPass).

1. My 1st 3DS game was Super Street Fighter IV, I think I got the console around launch and there wasn't many options available. It was still a solid port though! Fun to play arcade mode.
2. My absolute favorite is Tales of The Abyss no doubt. That might be a cheating answer though as it was originally a PS2 game and if so, I'd say Fire Emblem Awakening. I also really adored Kirby Planet Robobot, Dragon Quest VIII and Warioware Gold.
3. Not really sure if what's considered a hidden gem on the console but I really liked Samurai Warrior Chronicles. I never beat it though, it was a really long campaign. Very cool to have a Warriors game on 3DS that had RPG elements too.
4. I shuffle out randomly but I love the Pokemon GSC theme.
5. Weirdest game I've played on my 3DS that was also good was an eshop game called Runny Egg. You play as an egg in a platformer, was pretty fun and a good game in its own right.

I really want to play more 3DS games this year, I have Radiant Historia on the next to play list for 3DS.

I had almost completely forgotten about this thread but I'm excited to see so many people that love the 3ds that I do! Just finished catching up on all the replies and added some of the games to my "to be played" list  :ozwomp:  :ozwomp:

i loved and still love the 3ds, i think itll always be my fave console (unless nintendo drops something completely unexpected with the switch 2 or whatevers after that)

the free built-in apps were all so charming- i still play the ar games a lot :] the budgie in the sound app is adorable too, i want to collect all the hints it can give you when i have time. the streetpass minigames are great but i havent got a streetpass hit in so long that ive barely been able to play them TT i wish the switch had carried streetpass over, its a lovely feature

2. What is/are your favorite 3Ds game(s)?
theyre ds games and not 3ds ones, but pokemon mystery dungeon: blue rescue team and explorers of sky! its writing is Incredibly tell-dont-show and some of the bossfights are a bit infuriating (i am pretty bad at games though hgsfsh) but its positives outweigh the negatives in my opinion. the gameplay is fun, the stories are interesting and have memorable characters, you get to play as a pokemon(!!!) and the art is Beautiful (the krabby blowing bubbles cutscene makes me wish there was some sort of built-in cutscene replayer). ive lost my copy of explorers of sky and ill never stop being sad about it... its so expensive to get a new one TT

i also like the mario and luigi games a lot! ive been replaying bowsers inside story and its just such a fun game- blowing into the mic to breathe fire is a stupid-sounding gimmick thats only used in a couple fights (to my knowledge) but getting an excellent on it really makes you feel powerful

3. What's some of your favorite hidden gems?
puzzle bobble universe<33 its a pretty standard bubble popper game but the arts cute and the music sticks in your head and never leaves

also, the legendary starfy! its a. platformer..? im not sure if i can call it that since most of the levels are underwater..? with comic book-ish cutscenes and an artstyle that makes all the characters Wonderfully plushie shaped. the "hweh!" noise that starfy makes lives in my brain rent free

A 3DS game which I love and revisit but often isn't talked about is Inazuma Eleven 2: Blizzard/Firestorm!
It was never released in North America, but we had our own localisation here in the UK, complete with voice actors from your favourite late-2000s children's animation (the protagonist, average Tokyo resident Mark Evans, is played by Rory the Racing Car)! I know there was an anime, but I'm not sure I ever saw it on TV and the dub was American, which somewhat drained the appeal in a story about football (soccer). Giving the character from Hokkaido a thick Yorkshire accent will never not be the right dubbing decision imo... (On that note more anime should have UK dubs I want scouse reigen mob psycho do you see my vision?)
Funnily enough, I never played the first game! Went straight into the alien invasion plotline.

My other main games were anything Pokemon (pokemon ranger!!!!) and Nintendogs.

I also recently picked up the Disney's Bolt tie-in DS game and its sooooo bad its wonderful and boring. The ads for it at the time were the reason I watched Bolt in the first place and it became my favourite film for many years to come!

ohhhhh I love the 3DS so much. I still cherish and use the purple 3DS I got for my birthday in 2012!

Something that was so wonderful about late 2000's/early 2010's Nintendo - with the Wii, DS & 3DS - that they just don't have anymore is how those weren't just game machines, they were designed to be a part of daily life. The DS consoles were portable and came with cute & charming little apps, like the Brain Age DSiWare games and the Animal Crossing themed clock...and then the 3DS consoles had the play coins & Streetpass which encouraged you to go out with your game! The Wii was especially a "daily life" console, having apps for the weather, news, and in Japan they even had a Kirby TV channel that would periodically show episodes from the anime, along with an app that you could order food delivery from! It was amazing!

I once heard someone say that the 3DS was the last console that had "the Nintendo aesthetic" and I think they're right, sadly. The Switch, as much as I like it, just doesn't feel the same ): all the personality went to the controllers that are so shoddily made that people expect them to break, and Nintendo doesn't seem to give a shit lol (how Apple of them). :notgood:

but I digress - this thread is about the 3DS!!
Currently the only one I own is my original purple, but I'd love to get an XL(New XL?) someday. my DSi is an XL so I'd LOVE to see my 3DS games on a similar screen! :ozwomp:
My 3DS is the first thing I modded & installed custom firmware onto, and it's what got me into console modding/CFW! It's really great!! I don't really remember what the first game I downloaded with CFW was...I kinda went ham with it and downloaded anything that looked vaguely cool LOL

What was your first 3Ds game?
Tales of the Abyss!! I wanted a 3DS for Pokemon but X and Y hadn't even been announced yet so there weren't any 3DS Pokemon games besides Rumble Blast haha. I considered getting it, but I saw this random RPG that I'd never heard of before on the shelf next to it, and I went "hey, that sounds neat. I guess I'll try it" and then tripped face first into a game that changed my life.

What is/are your favorite 3Ds game(s)?
Besides Pokemon, it would be TotA. I even got the original PS2 version later on because I loved it so much ;_;

What's some of your favorite hidden gems?
FANTASY LIFE!!! :ozwomp: I'm still shocked this game isn't more popular than it is!! It's genuinely one of the best I've ever played. Unique, quirky, charming and fun...the game's whole theme is "do whatever you want." You can play at your own pace; the story bosses are a piece of cake so you can experience the story as you like, but the side bosses & late missions are super challenging if that's also your thing! Also the music and sounds are just fantastic. I spent a ton of hours in multiplayer with my friends and my mom haha.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Switch sequel, I really want it to be just as good...if it's bad, people might not ever give the 3DS one a chance :')

What's your main theme to use on your 3Ds?
The first thing I did after modding was look up NieR themes, lol...I installed a few different themes, including some cool Pokemon ones! So I don't really have a main one anymore...
I'm currently using this one :]

Weirdest game(s) you've played/seen on the 3Ds?
I don't think I have one, haha...I haven't explored much of the 3DS library yet! The "weirdest" I have is WarioWare but I feel like that's such a generic answer lol
Tomodachi Life might be a good answer but I feel like it's...slightly...more normal lol. Super fun though, I'm also craving a sequel (that will allow same gender marriages!!! :dog: )

The original Nintendo DS is my favourite games console of all time, and I never found the 3DS had the same je ne sais quoi. It 90% nostalgia bias ofc, but the original DS library felt more experimental, more weird. I don't dislike the 3DS, but it feels like the blander safer aft-runner of a genuine trailblazer. I guess it feels like the PS3, compared to the PS1 and PS2, if I had to make a simile.

1. What was your first 3DS game?
I absolutely do not remember, but i kinda wanna say Starfox 64 3D. Or one of the built-in AR games lol.

2. What is/are your favorite 3DS game(s)?
Animal Crossing NL, Pokemon Sun, Theatrhythm final fantasy, i guess i did like starfox. idk (hater) i remember a lot of 4/5 sequels to 5/5 DS Phat games.

3. What's some of your favorite hidden gems?
I think Rhythm Thief and the Emperors Treasure got its 15 minutes of tiktok fame a few years ago, but I know none of those people actually played it! its good!

4. What's your main theme to use on your 3DS? (Feel free to share an image too!)
https://themeplaza.art/item/54941

5. Weirdest game(s) you've played/seen on the 3DS?
I haven't tried it yet but I have got to play Automaton Lung. In the first paragraph of this post where i was being a little hater, Automaton Lung looks like the kind of game I wanted on the 3DS all along. I need to pull my finger out and go for it.

Oh boy, the Nintendo 3DS is my favorite console.  I got so many thoughts to share and I'm giddy to read your responses later when I got some free time, trying to finish a video today, but for now I'll answer the questions!

1. What was your first 3Ds game?
Outside of the preinstalled stuff like Face Raiders and AR Games, which I love, the first 3DS game I bought was Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, but I also bought the DSiWare games Cave Story and Anonymous Notes: Chapter 1.  Loved the Zelda remake and this was how I first experienced Cave Story.  Both great games.  Anonymous Notes was a pretty inoffensive but also unremarkable RPG, and I've never played much of it, but I got a small fondness for it.  Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor Overclocked and Star Fox 64 3D are also pretty early 3DS games for me.

2. What is/are your favorite 3Ds game(s)?
In no real order and I'm sure I'm missing some, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Attack of the Friday Monsters!, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Picross e6, Kid Icarus Uprising, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Fire Emblem Awakening, Etrian Odyssey IV, Etrian Odyssey V, Tomodachi Life, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 7, Fantasy Life, VVVVVV, and while not technically a 3DS game I'm going to shoutout that DSiWare version of Cave Story once again.  Oh, also Streetpass Mii Plaza I can't imagine the console without it!  I wish the Switch had something similiar.

3. What's some of your favorite hidden gems?
Automaton Lung is a weird little game that I think several members of this forum would gel with.  I don't even know what the goal of it is but I think that's part of the appeal.

4. What's your main theme to use on your 3Ds? (Feel free to share an image too!)
There's a few I rotate through!  The first 3DS I got was the original Cobalt Blue one but eventually upgraded to the New model with the faceplates, I got the Mario Handfuda ones so I usually use the Hanafuda theme.  However I some time use the SEGA console themes, usually the Dreamcast theme because what a wonderful console and theme.  I also bought this Game & Watch theme before the eShop closed and I gotta say it's also in constant rotation because it's so fun!

5. Weirdest game(s) you've played/seen on the 3Ds?
I don't think it counts as a game but PDI Check if only for it's weird presence on the eShop.  It costed $99 but it went on sale for $1 so I nabbed it then.  Bizarre thing for sure.

1. What was your first 3Ds game?
My first 3DS game was tomodachi life. Me and a cousin both got our systems and the game at the same time (our brithdays are very close together) and we played that game all summer. Mario Kart 7 and Mutant Mudds were also pretty early
2. What is/are your favorite 3Ds game(s)?
Animal Crossing: New Leaf has such a strong place in my heart, when I didn't have many friends I had that game to look forward to. Star Fox 64 3D is also a lot of fun, especially in multiplayer, and so is WarioWare: Gold
3. What's some of your favorite hidden gems?
Rhythm Heaven: MegaMix is super good, so are the Sega 3d Classics remakes, particularly Fantasy Zone 2.
4. What's your main theme to use on your 3Ds?
The 3 I use most often are a nice Cave Story one, one for Celeste, and one with the visuals (and music) from Fabulous Secret Powers. HeMan even dances when you move the menu!
5. Weirdest game(s) you've played/seen on the 3Ds?
I'm not sure, really. I used the 3DS to play Tempo, that may be it. Maybe those super cheap games with the weird cats that I can't remember the name of rn
EDIT: I went and looked, and I found the name of the cats! The game is Kutar Jump Rope, there was a whole series with Kutar, all very cheap on the eshop

I've only had my 3DS for... about a year? But I absolutely love it! I take it with me most of the time and I've gotten a couple streetpasses which surprised me. I grew up with a DS lite so I'm more familiar with that library of games and it's nice to go back and play some of my older favorites.

1. What was your first 3Ds game?
I think Tomodachi Life was the first one I played, I haven't opened it for a bit but it's fun! Most of my island is made up of random characters from other games and shows. Nintendogs Lab & Friends was my very first game I ever got as a kid. I still have it and my DS lite but the top screen is broken.

2. What is/are your favorite 3Ds game(s)?
Shin Megami Tensei IV has probably been my favorite so far, the story is great and I like the battle system. That first area is brutal though. I've also found I really like the Picross e games, I'm currently on the 4th one. They're nice little puzzle games that don't require too much brain power.

3. What's some of your favorite hidden gems?
I don't really have an answer for this but I guess the picross games would maybe count.

4. What's your main theme to use on your 3Ds?
Right now it's this one: https://themeplaza.art/item/4635

5. Weirdest game(s) you've played/seen on the 3Ds?
Hmm I don't have an answer for this either, I've mostly been playing through some of the more well-known titles.

One of my favorite things about Rhythm Heaven is that I can play it without looking, usually I play it on the bus to uni so I can look out at the scenery and be a karate man at the same time!

I got a 3ds xl for my bday and its soo nice, i remember wanting one since i saw my relative have a pink ds and we used to play cooking mama on it. its been years since i had thought of getting one but by the time i remembered to ask for it, it had already been discontinued  :trash: so i had to scrounge online for it. i was originally aiming to get the old 3ds xl in the pastel pink color but decided on settling for a new 3ds XL in the neon pink color since i figured that itd be in better conditions and last longer. So far its been really good, it came in pre-homebrewed so i didnt have to do all that and risk damaging it lol

1. What was your first 3Ds game?
- The 3ds was second hand so it already had games pre-installed on it, but if were talking about what game i downloaded and played first, it was probably style savvy for the ds but as for an actual 3ds game, it was kid icarus:uprising

2. What is/are your favorite 3Ds game(s)?
- tetris(i can spend hours playing this) any of the ace attorney games, style savvy trendsetters, tomodachi life, professor layton, rhythm heaven for the ds and rhythm thief. rn im into ace attorney, its rlly one of those games that will suck you in for hours and u wont even notice it but if im not playing that then im probably playing the original rhythm heaven(not megamix, as i prefer the flicking mechanism :seal: )

3. What's some of your favorite hidden gems?
- sadly i dont rlly know much hidden gems but one game that i like that doesnt seem talked about as much is ig the emily the strange game, im  a big fan of the art style

4. What's your main theme to use on your 3Ds? (Feel free to share an image too!)
- ooooo rn its a pink death note one w misa amane

5. Weirdest game(s) you've played/seen on the 3Ds?
- probably the breaking bad one made by someone in the homebrew community lol
