pretendo, a replacement for the now defunct nintendo network

in light of the recent nuking of the nintendo network on wiiu and 3ds consoles, i wanna recommend pretendo, a service that replaces the online service that nintendo got rid of. so if u still wanna play games like splatoon 1 or acnl online this is smth i recommend. u also don't need to hack ur wiiu if u install pretendo on there which is pretty cool

How do I use Pretendo?

Pretendo is currently not in a state that is ready for public use. However, once it is you will be able to use Pretendo simply by running our homebrew patcher on your console.

That may not be updated yet, but I am also not sure. Their latest blog post clarified a few things, one of them being that they saved an exploit until now so it cannot be patched anymore, and what firmware Pretendo works with and whether jailbreaking is still needed.

I'm honestly really confused about whether it's currently working on 3DS with CFW or not. I'm not in a hurry, the only game I really want to play online again is ACNL and that still seems to be far off in the future.

I'm super excited to use this! Me and some of my friends have been in a bit of a rut because we want to play Animal Crossing together, but New Horizons isnt doing anything for us any more. It's gonna be nice to get back into New Leaf :^)

I used this guide to mod my Wii U, and the GDoc in the description has a link to a guide by the same creator that I used to install Pretendo on it. It's well-made, easy to follow and worked like a charm!

I was able to set this up on my 3DS today I even managed to join an online Mario Kart 7 race and came last many times in a row 

From what I can see the selection of games it supports is quite limited and Animal Crossing is not one of them yet; but its a cool project and it makes the 3DS feel a lot less abandoned; particularly things like Miiverse.

Pretendo is something that I've found super fascinating for a while! But, the only game I really play online is Mario Kart 7 which has seperate fan run servers (CTGP7 / Custom Track Grand Prix), so I probably? wouldn't set it up yet. It's still fantastic that fans have made it though and I really really hope Nintendo doesn't kill it.

Was really hoping there was something similar to the SSSL exploit on the Wii U for the 3DS to get this going. Don't really want to put homebrew on my 3DS.

I'll probably try the SSSL exploit on my Wii U and see how much I really want it on my 3DS as well. I really miss Miiverse.
